About this property

Set on the fringes of North Tawton, The Old Laundry is a detached cottage, converted from an old laundry building on the Ashridge Court estate and working farm, a 12th century estate that spans nearly 400 acres in woodland and fields. Although The Old Laundry has been converted with modern utilities, it has kept its historic feel with wooden panelled walls and classic décor. It is perfect for walkers and cyclists due to the excellent surrounding area, and guests can ramble freely throughout the estate's woodlands and grounds. Set over two floors, this cottage begins with an entrance hallway, where you can kick of your boots after a long walk about the estate grounds and hang up your coats in the cloakroom or utility room, which features a freezer, Belfast sink, washing machine and dryer, granting you extra room in the living space. Moving through to the open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting area, you can make the evening meal using the modern electric oven and hob with your partner or friends while others can sit at the dining table, enjoying a glass of wine. You can look forward to cosying up in the sitting area in front of the woodburning stove, with the added benefit of underfloor heating which is fantastic for those chilly winter nights. Head up to the first floor, where you will find two good-sized bedrooms, comprising of a king-size double bed and a single room with wardrobe. Start your day right with a hot shower in the neatly sized bathroom that also has basin and WC, and get ready for a day of exploring. For those evenings that you would like to spend alone, you can sit out on the secluded private patio and unwind with a glass of wine. The small village of North Tawton has several pubs and shops within the community, so you don’t have to go too further afield to have all you need. The Ashridge Court estate is ideally positioned to explore both Cornwall and Devon, with the A30 just a 15-minute drive if you are wanting to go further afield, and to the south is the Dartmoor National Park, where a whole host of outdoor activities are available to you from walking or cycling, to horse riding or wild swimming. In the neighbouring town of Okehampton, you can visit the largest castle in Devon and English Heritage Site, Okehampton Castle, with a riverside picnic area and beautiful woodland walks, it's great for bird lovers. A clever blend of traditional features with a modern renovation, The Old Laundry is everything you want for an idyllic break.

The charming country town of North Tawton quietly rests amidst lush green fields, high hedgerows and winding lanes, just eight miles north of historic Okehampton. Nestling between the high, rugged tors of Dartmoor and the wide sandy beaches and rolling surf of the North Devon coast, this delightful town boasts picturesque thatched cottages and quaint pubs. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling, with many pretty little villages dotted throughout the area, and several excellent coarse fishing lakes and rivers, quality golf courses, and a number of National Trust properties within easy reach. There are few better spots from which to experience the joys of beautiful Devon.

Comfortable cottage with all the amenities you need. A warm welcome from the owner and a delicious lemon cake was a very nice treat. A great location to visit many of Devon’s lovely towns.

There are plenty of walks across the 400 acres estate all directly from the front door. If you are looking for a peaceful break that is away from it all and wish connect with nature this is definitely the place to stay. The extra bonuses are the welcoming peacocks and guinea fowl who regularly like to greet you. The lemon drizzle cake was a welcome gesture from our friendly hosts. We will be back for another visit,
