The Old Stone House, dating back to the 17th century, was originally a stone cutter’s yard, and later a police station. The kitchen is believed to be the original police cell. The property has recently been refurbished in 2022 within keeping of the original features. You can see this from the exposed beams, open fireplaces, and stonework which have been expertly renovated back to their former glory. With outstanding beaches and coastal hill top walks on the door step.

The accommodation is laid out over three floors; on entering the property directly into the living room where there is a Smart TV with airplay, open fireplace, and comfy sofas for all the family to enjoy a night around the fire, steps that take you in the dining room where there are stone steps and French doors opening on the rear garden. The well-equipped kitchen featuring a Belfast sink is adjacent to the dining room where you will find everything you need.

Upstairs on the first floor there are two kingsize bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room and utilising the space with a washing machine. The family bathroom is on this floor with a rain shower over the bath and heated towel rail. Up to the second floor you will find another large bedroom with a double and a single bed. On a clear day, there are views across Ballard down all the way to the Isle of Wight.

Outside is somewhere you will spend a lot of time, the evening sun giving you a beautiful place to sit and relax after a day exploring. There is a museum in Swanage with information on the history of the town including the Jurassic Coast, dinosaurs and the second world war; there is certainly something for all the family to be interested in. Swanage has a train station with a steam train which can take you to Corfe Castle, a beautiful town with the ruins of a 1000-year-old castle which is a National Trust site.

If you want to connect with the outdoors you can walk along the sandy beaches in Swanage or the National Trust Nature Reserve at Studlands or along the southwest coastal path on the Jurassic Coast. Perhaps a day trip to Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door for spectacular scenery or visit Durlston Country Park and National Nature Reserve where you can also visit Durlston Castle an extraordinary Victorian building with ever changing exhibitions inside. For the thrill seekers you can book trips to go out on the water including sea fishing, diving or coasteering. A great way to explore the Purbecks is by bike, Rempstone Ride offers a 12mile, off road track suitable for all the family, Cross via pool harbour ferry, there are cycle tracks all along the coast. Bikes can be stored in the courtyard or the summer house. Hikers are spoilt for choice, Ballard and the Purbeck Hills offer some of the best walks in the country. Quaint and quirky in a great location for a walk into town or up and over durlston. Brilliant facilities with a well equipped kitchen, strong WiFi and the washing machine as a bonus. Great sized bedrooms and the secure garden was perfect for the dog.

Had an amazing few days at Stone cottage. Very welcoming home and plenty to do in swanage. Lots of stairs, so not suitable really for anyone who struggles on stairs and getting to the garden may be difficult but we loved its quirky set up. We had two young children and they managed fine. The garden is beautiful and very peaceful.

A comfortable house in an excellent location, well-furnished for all weathers. A historic and attractive building a short walk from Swanage town centre. Excellent for families.
