Guests say

Hambury House is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in a fantastic location, just a short walk from Lulworth Cove and local amenities. Guests consistently praise the size, kitchen facilities, and parking, making it ideal for families and groups. The property offers a homely feel and is perfect for exploring the Jurassic Coast. While some areas could benefit from a little TLC and improved cleanliness, most guests thoroughly enjoyed their stay and would happily return.

Several guests noted that the property was generally clean and tidy, but a number of reviews mentioned issues such as dusty areas, bathrooms needing extra attention, and some kitchen surfaces not being spotless. While not a major concern for most, a more thorough clean would enhance the experience.

The location is highly praised, with guests loving the proximity to Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, local pubs, and shops. The area is described as beautiful and ideal for walks, making it a standout feature of the property.

Guests found the house spacious and beds comfortable, but several reviews highlighted that the lounge sofas are tired and uncomfortable, and some beds were considered too low or soft for certain guests. Overall, the property is comfortable but would benefit from updated lounge furniture.

The cottage is very well equipped, especially the kitchen, with ample utensils and appliances. Parking is convenient, and the garden is enclosed and suitable for pets. Some minor maintenance issues were noted, such as plumbing, shower drainage, and worn furniture, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as a Christmas tree and responsive property management. However, as gifts or extras are not consistently mentioned or guaranteed, future guests should not expect these as standard.

Known as the Gateway to the Jurassic Coast, West Lulworth is situated within a scenic 10 minute stroll of the picturesque Lulworth Cove, a sheltered horse-shoe shaped natural harbour.

Historically, the cove was notorious as a popular landing point for smugglers looking to land their illicit booty. Today a fleet of fishing trawlers are based in the cove as well as pleasure boats offering scenic day voyages along the coast. Its sheltered position makes the cove particularly popular with beachgoers looking to sunbathe and swim.

Lulworth Cove is only half a mile from Durdle Door, an iconic natural limestone arch which has featured in several music videos, television productions and movies such as Nanny McPhee.

Weymouth and Portland, official Olympic 2012 sailing venues, are within a 20-mile drive.

We loved our stay at Hambury House the accommodation was perfect for our family. However the house was quite dirty in some areas in particular the bathrooms. The lounge was also very dusty and the furniture is way past its best. The kitchen surfaces were grubby and the dog bowl hadn’t even been emptied. The dishwasher was full of dirty crockery as well. I do have a couple of photos should you want them! The kitchen was very well equipped with crockery, saucepans etc and cutlery. It was a real shame that these few things let the property down as with a few tweaks it could be exceptional. Overall we had a wonderful time and despite the things I have mentioned we would go back.

We do believe, after many stays in self catering cottages, that it should be mandatory to upgrade property photos every two years at least. This would go someway to mitigate much deception. As for Hambury House...could be a really lovely 100% property but because it seems so unloved..just a 50% from us. The broken chair in the lounge needs to be tipped and just making the garden a pretty place to sit out in (not difficult, just a few planted pots and a fresh coat of creosote on the fence), would transform the experience. The kitchen is very well kitted out with everything a keen cook needs but take a pack of Ovenpride with you!Overall verdict... would be nice if the owners had more pride.

We had a lovely stay at Hambury House. Clean & well equipped though in need of a bit of sprucing up. Enclosed garden for the dog and car parking were great. Easy walk down to Lulworth Cove. Local shop and had a good meal at the The Castle inn. Lots of walks around the village, but unfortunately the walks above West Lulworth to the East were out of bounds all week due to army exercises. Fortunately our dog is not bothered by gunfire, but it could be a problem for some dogs.
