The Old Engine House receives high praise for its spacious, well-equipped, and comfortable accommodation in a peaceful rural setting. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, the proximity to a welcoming village pub, and the excellent base for exploring Dorset and the Jurassic Coast. The property is noted for its cleanliness and dog-friendly features, with only minor comments about the detached garden and occasional maintenance points. Overall, guests thoroughly enjoyed their stays and would happily recommend or return.
Cleanliness is consistently highlighted, with multiple guests describing the cottage as spotless, very clean, and well maintained. One guest even noted stripping the beds and finding everything extremely clean, including mattresses and pillows. Only one review mentioned a dog smell, but this was an isolated comment.
The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, rural charm, and convenience for exploring Dorset, Devon, and Somerset. The proximity to a good local pub and scenic countryside is a recurring positive. Some guests noted the lack of village facilities beyond the pub, but this was generally seen as part of the peaceful appeal.
Guests found the cottage very comfortable, with special mention of spacious rooms, comfortable beds, and restful sleep. A few minor comments were made about one twin bed being uncomfortable and some bedrooms being a bit cramped, but the overall impression is of a relaxing and homely environment.
The property is described as very well equipped, with everything needed for a self-catering stay. Guests appreciated the kitchen, utility room, and dog-friendly features. Suggestions for improvement included adding a tumble dryer and mop, and some wear from dog guests was noted, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Many guests mentioned thoughtful touches such as welcome packs, tea, coffee, and milk on arrival, and friendly, helpful hosts. While these gestures are appreciated, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped and just what we had hoped for. The outside spaces for sitting and for dogs were perfect. Our only complaint was that there was only one suitable dog walking path nearby, by the church, and getting up to it was quite difficult as there weren’t pavements all the way and there was quite a bit of heavy traffic. The footpath from the farm was closed with cattle present, so unusable. The surrounding area was beautiful and there were many places to visit.
