About this property

The Cottage is attached to the Owners stone built white house, and has been created specially for their holiday guests. Located up a private road just seconds from the A35, High Bullen Cottage offers views over the surrounding Dorset countryside. Nearby Golden cap offers access to the South West coastal path all within easy walking distance. The cottage enjoys its own enclosed patio area, complete with outside furniture for alfresco eating. Upstairs the bedroom offers views of the rolling Dorset countryside, with just a hint of the sea in the distance.

Furnished to a high standard throughout, the interiors reflect the influences of a seaside cottage, with a woodburner offering all year round cosiness. A small but complete kitchen with dinning table, offers an opportunity to make a special meal in. One luxury bedroom with chandelier over the centrally located bed, and duel aspect windows comes with en-suite bathroom, containing both bath and overhead shower. The Cottage is the perfect retreat for people who like to relax and do nothing, or take in the walks to visit both sea and surrounding countryside.

The pretty village of Chideock (pronounced Chiddick) can be found straddling the main A35 road between Bridport and Honiton, in glorious West Dorset. Many of the quaint cottages lining the road are constructed of cob and the honey-coloured local sandstone. Lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the area has plenty of lovely walks, whilst just 1 mile away is Dorset's Jurassic Coast, famed for its fossils and ease of finding them, where a walk along the coastal path affords spectacular views across the sparkling waters of Lyme Bay towards Portland, Chisel beach and the Devon coast. A short drive east takes you to the ancient rope-making town of Bridport, and the harbour at West Bay, or venture west to visit the picturesque seaside resort of Lyme Regis. An excellent holiday base from which to explore this scenic area.

Hosts live next door but you would never notice in that they are never intrusive. No noise travels through adjoining wall and they clearly put a lot of effort into making sure guests feel welcome on arrival. The property is well maintained and a small maintenance issue was fixed immediately upon reporting - which would never happen if the hosts didn't live next door! Hot water and heating timings are controlled by property owner but hosts mention on arrival/key handover that timings can easily be modified to guests requirements and there is a heating thermostat in the property. I hate being cold but we had no issues at all in a very wet and chilly February week. Comfortable mattress and sofa and a solid kitchen table and good internet. Farm shop just down the road and lots to see and do in the area. I can thoroughly recommend High Bullen Cottage. (High Bullen Lodge is also available for rent and situated just behind the main house) . Thank you to the hosts for a very enjoyable stay. (My only nitpicky comment would be please could you put in another couple of mugs? My suspicion here is that there may have been previous unreported breakages because everything else in the kitchen was absolutely tip top including quality sharp knives which is almost unheard of in a holiday rental)

The kitchen was well equipped although we did not use it much as too many lovely places to eat in the surrounding area. We were lucky with the weather during our stay so able after a full day out walking we could take a breath in the lovely compact terrace overlooking the local countryside.

Cottage was just perfect, we had everything we needed and the complimentary bottle of wine, home made scones and clotted cream was a nice touch. Definitely recommend a stay. Also nice location to get to Lyme Regis, Bridport etc, so not far to travel.
