Located in the quiet village of Buckland Newton, between Sherborne and Dorchester, this quaint bolthole promises to be that wonderful holiday to Dorset that you have been dreaming of. This charming accommodation is set over two floors and is full of character with original features and exposed beams, complemented by plush furnishings to ensure a welcoming space to return to at the end of each day. Enter through the front door into the sitting room, where you can look forward to snuggling up on the sofa and getting lost within a good book, whilst the open fire crackles in the background. A traditional kitchen with dining area set off with a tiled floor comes complete with everything you could possibly need to create a delicious meal, which can be enjoyed within the separate dining room. There is a spacious conservatory with far-reaching views across the meadows, with two sofas and a TV, offering an alternative space for the family to relax. As the evening draws to a close, look forward to catching your rest within one the three well-presented bedrooms, each boasting plush furnishings and plenty of storage space. The ground-floor double bedroom has wonderful countryside views, chairs, and table, perfect for additional family members wanting additional space to relax. Adjacent to this room is the family bathroom with shower over bath, basin, and WC. Climbing the stairs will bring you to two bedrooms where you can relax and unwind after a busy day exploring Dorset, comprising of one twin bedroom and one double bedroom, boasting stunning countryside views has the benefit of its very own en-suite. Step outside into the substantial sized gardens, with a lovely country outlook, a small stream running along one side of the garden, outdoor furniture, and a wooden swing for the children, this is the perfect place to sit back and relax. Thatch Cottage accepts two small or one medium well-behaved dogs, so you can bring your pets on holiday with you and enjoy long country walks with them. The nearby village of Buckland Newton is well-served by a small local village shop and the Gaggle of Geese pub, where both children and dogs are very welcome. Alternatively, a scenic drive will take you north to the ancient market town of Sherborne with its wide range of independent shops, historic buildings, cultural events, and festivals. Travelling south will take you to the ancient roman town of Dorchester, the county town of Dorset. Dorchester has some of the country’s best-preserved Roman remains, a beautiful river walk, and a good selection of tearooms and coffee shops for you to watch the world go by in. Further afield you have Weymouth with its perfect sandy beach, promising to be a great family day out, whether you are lazing on the sands or walking the sublime coastline. Thatch Cottage is the ideal property for your holiday providing a relaxing retreat in a countryside setting where you can escape from reality and reconnect with loved ones.

On the border of Blackmore Vale and at the top of the quaintly titled Piddle Valley, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the West Dorset village of Buckland Newton and its seven neighbouring hamlets, among them Brockhampton. The settlement is located 12 miles north of Thomas Hardy's Dorchester and 12 miles south of mediaeval Sherborne. A visit to the neighbouring historic Cerne Abbas, with its instantly iconic chalk giant and a variety of tea shops and inns offering authentic ales and delectable food, is not to be missed. Locally, there are great picturesque hikes to be enjoyed. As an alternative, head south to the remarkable Dorset Jurassic Coast, which has been named a World Heritage Site. There, you'll find plenty of sandy beaches and excellent facilities for all types of water sports. Golden sand beaches and a busy harbour are available in Weymouth, from where you can take a day excursion to the Channel Islands. From here, it's only a short drive to Portland Harbour and the wild "Isle" of Portland, which is connected to Weymouth by the breathtaking Chesil Beach. You have so many options in this delightful area of Dorset, with interesting Sherborne and lively Dorchester being only a short drive away.

Just a couple of points, a fixed shower rather than a hand held would be good, also the arrival time is very late, four would be far better.
