Nestling in the village of Longhope on the edge of the beautiful Forest of Dean, this thoughtfully designed, detached holiday property incorporates characterful features throughout. The living area boasts a feature wood burner and exposed beams. It is ideally situated to enjoy this fantastic area. Activities such as walking, cycling, canoeing and clay pigeon are all available locally. Wonderful walks are also available from the doorstep and guests have unlimited access to the owner’s farm land, with woodland walks and orchards to explore. There are many attractions to visit including Harts Barn Craft Centre and Cookery School which is part of the estate. Why not use the hire chef service and have a gormet meal cooked for you! Go Ape Treetop Adventure, Puzzlewood and a steam railway to name just a few are not far away too. There is a local pub which is within walking distance as well as the local village of Longhope which has a lovely artisan bakery. Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth, Ledbury, Hereford, The Malverns, Gloucester and Cheltenham are all within easy driving distance. Shop ½ mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

We stayed over the Christmas period and this is our 5th stay at the retreat. We were a family of 6, 4 adults and two children, we had a wonderful time! The cottage is situated away from any other property and is perfect if you are looking for a place to switch off and reset. The hot tub is a lovely addition to the property and is great for star gazing.

Unfortunately we arrived unexpectedly. The place hadn’t been cleaned. However, due to their error, the owners were very apologetic and immediately upgraded us to another very large property just down the road.

Positives: Beautiful peaceful location at the end of its own private lane, no neighbours. Very tranquil. Fantastic outdoor area that catches the sun into the evening. Hot tub was a huge hit with the teenagers! BBQ area and plenty of seating. Window shutters guarantee a good night's sleep (no waking up to sunlight streaming in). We were there the first week of August and took advantage of the windfall plums along the lane to make crumble. Well located for days out with main roads from the cottage.Negatives: The private lane to the cottage is very uneven and steep at the beginning. We struggled to get up on our first attempt. You just have to set off in first gear and keep on going; don't stop. No good if you have a low car. Would benefit from a few extra bags of chippings to fill the potholes. No danger of meeting another car though, as the lane leads only to the cottage.The showers are very powerful but the floor of the main wet room is angled such that water pools around the toilet up to an inch deep. We gave up trying to drain it - a squeegee or mop would have been useful here.
