The Lodge in Lydney is a spacious, well-equipped cottage praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and excellent location near the Forest of Dean. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, secure garden for dogs, and accessibility features for those with mobility needs. The property is ideal for families and couples, offering a homely atmosphere and thoughtful touches. While a few guests noted minor issues such as creaky floorboards, occasional road noise, and rare maintenance concerns, the overwhelming feedback is highly positive, with many guests eager to return.

Most guests found the property spotlessly clean and well maintained, with only a couple of isolated comments mentioning the need for a spring clean or minor maintenance. The overall impression is of a very clean and welcoming cottage.

The location is frequently praised for its proximity to the Forest of Dean, local attractions, and amenities in Lydney. Some mention road noise, but this is generally not seen as a major issue. The setting is described as beautiful and convenient for exploring the area.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as comfortable, cosy, and homely, with good beds and a relaxing atmosphere. Accessibility for those with mobility needs is highlighted. A few mention softer beds or creaky floorboards, but these are minor compared to the overall comfort.

The cottage is well equipped with everything needed for a stay, including kitchen essentials, WiFi, smart TV, games, and secure parking. Occasional comments note minor maintenance issues (e.g., freezer, cooker filter), but these do not detract significantly from the overall positive experience.

Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, and biscuits on arrival, as well as the hosts' willingness to show guests around the farm and accommodate late check-outs. Please note that such gifts or gestures are not guaranteed for every stay.

This is a lovely cottage and unlike many holiday cottages it is fully liveable, that is you feel it is just like your home with all the things you need at hand. It is beautifully presented and very comfortable. The television was simple to operate, which isn’t always the case, and there was a good selection of DVDs both for adults and children. There are also lots of games and toys in the cupboard in the lounge. It’s a really lovely holiday home from home. Plenty of storage in all the rooms. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily book again. It is particularly good for dog security. The patio garden has 4 foot high solid walls all round so no worries for smaller dogs. The grassed area at the back was similarly well secured with a thick hedge and farm gate though tiny dogs, like our Yorkie, might have been able to wiggle under the gate so we kept him just in the patio area as there are goats in the field next to the grass area. Although it is on a farm the cottage does catch some road noise from an adjacent road which seems well used so if you are sensitive to traffic noise this might not be the cottage for you. I would say that we didn’t find it a problem. Parking is good with two spaces for The Lodge. There’s lots to see in the area. Lydney has lots of shopping facilities including a Tesco and a Lidl. Bathurst park has a nice play area for children. Gloucester, Monmouth, Ross on Wye and Chepstow are all easy trips to make by car but there are also lovely walks in the Forest of Dean itself. We visited Mallards Pike and Beechenhurst which both have lots of parking (pay and display) and on site cafes. Beechenhurst also has a Sculpture Trail which made the walk more interesting.
