Guests say

Milkmaid's Barn in Gloucester offers a spacious and well-equipped stay, ideal for large groups and dog-friendly. With a hot tub, BBQ facilities, and proximity to local amenities and the Forest of Dean, it's a great base for exploring. Some guests noted sound insulation issues and suggested minor improvements for an even better experience.

The barn was described as clean by guests, indicating a high standard of cleanliness. However, there is no specific mention of exceptional cleanliness to warrant a perfect score.

The property's location is convenient, next to a Morrisons and close to the Forest of Dean, with pubs and shops within easy reach. The proximity to amenities and attractions supports a high score.

Guests found the beds comfortable and the property spacious. However, the open ceiling in the upstairs bedrooms and the noise from neighbouring properties suggest that comfort could be improved with better soundproofing.

The barn is well-equipped with a hot tub and BBQ, but guests suggested additional frying pans and loo roll. The need for extra wood for the hot tub and coal for the BBQ, along with the mention of a non-operational fire detector, indicate room for improvement in facilities and maintenance.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owner. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

We stayed at Milkmaids Barn for a long weekend with family. Really well laid out and accommodation was great. The downside is that the kitchen only had the very basics. It would sleep 10 but we didn't even have enough cutlery for that many people. Not enough pots and pans etc for doing a lovely home cooked meal. We made it work but it made it stressful. We would also have preferred a standard hot tub as opposed to wood fired. It took way too long to heat up and we couldn't use the first day and then it became extremely expensive to keep buying wood to keep it warms another extra stress. Now we know all this we would stay again but bearing all that in mind

Overall we had a good stay at the barn. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs 2 of them with en-suites and TVs and then a main bathroom and 2 bedrooms upstairs. Please note that the bedrooms upstairs have an open ceiling into the living area so if you’re staying in the upstairs bedrooms you will be able to hear everything in the kitchen. The barn is well equipped and had everything we needed, if there is a few of you bring an extra frying pan and loo roll. The hot tub was great, took 4 hours to heat up on the first night and then just a quick heat up each day (bring extra wood) we had a BBQ every night which was good and you will need to bring coal for this. There is a pub down the road, a petrol station Morrisons just next door which was perfect and a garden centre opposite with a cafe. There is also a Chinese and chip shop 8 minute drive away. We spent most days exploring the Forest of Dean which is about 20 minutes away. It is dog friendly which was great however there is no immediate grass area just stone (there is a field around the back) we had great weather however there is no windows or doors directly in the living area so it did get hot. Unfortunately we had neighbours next to us partying until early hours of the morning and the walls are thin so we were kept up with the music and talking so would recommend earplugs incase. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

10 of us (girls) recently stayed at the place. It was such a great fun. The place has everything you need to cater for a big group. We really love the kitchen/dining and sitting area. Gloucester town is about 9 miles and taxis are available if you want to go out. There are walking places if you want to go out for the day.BBQ is good as well. The hot tub took about 3 hours to get to 35 degree as this is heated by the fire. It was worth the wait in the end.
