If you don’t mind the somewhat hairy track down down down into the valley, then you’ll love this place. Perfect for walks and wildlife, and sitting in front of a log fire playing games. It is a delightful balance of comfortable, home from home and slightly tatty that makes you feel happy to use the place. It’s the opposite of smart and prissy which my friends and I could not have been happier about. Mind the hot water which is dangerously close to boiling. A sign or two on the track might have been a help but five stars. Just what we wanted for our ‘girls’ week away.

Driftcombe is in a magical setting for lovers of the countryside and hilly walks. The house is homely but a bit shabby and has only one loo in the bathroom. A big downside is the fact there is only a small frig with a tiny freezer space. The farmhouse is down a long unmade road with a tricky hairpin bend - not easy to pop out to shops so it would be good to be able to bring more food with you.We have been renting Driftcombe since the 1970s and love it but now we are in our 80s and hills are difficult we will not be able to keep going there. We are left with wonderful memories of badgers, rabbits, deer and foxes coming into the garden and the loveliest of local walks.

What a place! If you like amazing birdsong and being in the midst of nothing but nature, this is for you. The walks from the cottage are also very good - though often involve pretty steep climbs. Overall, superb!
