Ploughman's Cottage in Hoxne, Suffolk, is a characterful property praised for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and cosy atmosphere with a wood burner. The enclosed garden is appreciated by pet owners, and the village's friendly vibe and local pub add to the charm. Some guests noted the steep spiral staircase and proximity to a busy road as considerations.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as clean and fresh, with special mentions of the comfortable beds and fresh-smelling linen. However, a few guests noted issues with flies and a wasp nest, slightly impacting the overall perception of cleanliness.
The village of Hoxne is appreciated for its beauty and friendly community, with convenient local amenities and walks. However, the proximity to a busy road and the unexpected volume of traffic have been noted as drawbacks by some visitors.
The cottage's beds are frequently highlighted as exceptionally comfortable, contributing to a pleasant stay. However, the steep spiral staircase and the layout of the bathroom have been mentioned as less comfortable aspects, especially for guests with mobility issues or small children.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, but guests have reported issues with heating, lighting, and some appliances. The lack of clear instructions for some facilities has also been a point of contention.
While guests have not specifically mentioned gifts, the provision of a well-stocked kitchen and the inclusion of a stair gate for pets demonstrate a level of thoughtfulness. However, due to the absence of explicit references to gifts, a score cannot be provided.

.. Not very clean. No firelighters or matches as stated, no salt/pepper. Previous visitors empty condiments still in cupboard. Storage heating inadequate for time of year, & settings were locked so we couldn't turn it on or up. Cutlery, glasses & pans all needed washing on arrival, and very cold so not welcoming. Freezer iced up with previous visitors left-overs still inside. The seal on the oven had all come away & hanging loose. Only one very tiny bin in kitchen & no recycling bin or bags as stated, despite being asked to separate ordinary rubbish from recycling. Once we cleaned up, shopped & bought firewood we had a lovely cosy stay, but felt no effort had been made to ensure this.

However, the cottage was warm, cosy and full of character, particularly with the log burner in use. The cottage is set in a beautiful village, a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of town life. We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return.
