On the edge of Tunstall Common and Forest (an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) in the picturesque Suffolk countryside, this lovely wooden-clad modern property is an impeccable choice for couples looking for a peaceful rural holiday. This single-storey lodge is warm and welcoming and you will feel right at home as soon as you step through the door. The stylish interior with coastal colours welcomes you into an open-plan living area with comfortable seating and plenty of natural light. Completing the interior there is a double bedroom and a shower room. The contemporary kitchen has all the appliances you need to prepare meals, although there are many good restaurants and pubs in the surrounding area worth visiting. For any rainy days, there is a Smart TV with Netflix for watching your favourite box sets and a DAB radio/CD plus USB port. Through the French doors is a patio with a bistro set and a BBQ for al fresco dining. There is also a fenced, grassed area for your dog to enjoy.
There are many woodland walks and cycle routes from the doorstep including the 10-mile Viking Mountain Bike Trail, which winds in and around the forest (the lodge has a secure bicycle lockup). With little light pollution here, the night skies can be spectacular, making for excellent stargazing. The large ‘wild’ garden is a haven for nature with frequent visits from many species of birds and both fallow and muntjac deer. There is a large variety of wild meadow flowers in the garden during the summer months which entice a variety of insects, butterflies, moths and bats!
Visit Snape Maltings (3 miles) where you will find independent shops, crafts, galleries, cafes, restaurants and boat trips by the River Alde. A must-do: visit Benjamin Britten’s famous concert hall and book yourselves a couple of tickets, preferably in advance, for a concert during your stay. The village of Orford (5 miles) is home to a castle and several delicious eateries including the award-winning Pump Street Bakery (which has a wood burner in the winter). For a taste of the sea head to: Pinney’s Smoke House (a fish specialist shop) and/or the Butley Orford Oysterage restaurant. For river views, there is a great little tea shop on the quay. Boat trips are available for birdwatching, for discovering the history of MOD radar development and other military technologies in Orford Ness (see info boards on the quayside for boat bookings). Other places of interest include Framlingham and its castle (10 miles), Aldeburgh and its beach (9 miles), quaint Thorpeness Village and Mere (9 miles).
