The interior of 17 Market Place and The Vault has been meticulously restored to provide a high-quality and comfortable retreat. On entering the four-bedroom property, you step into an entrance lobby with an armchair and coat and boot storage. Stairs lead to the first floor, bringing you to the heart of the home. The sitting room features high ceilings and was formerly the bank’s meeting room, preserving many original features while adding contemporary character. The fully fitted kitchen includes a dishwasher and combination washer/dryer.
The first floor also houses three spacious bedrooms: bedroom two with a 5' king-size bed with Market Place views, bedroom three with a 5' king-size bed and en-suite and bedroom four with a twin room that can be converted to a 6' super-king with Market Place views. An additional cloakroom completes the floor.
The second floor is home to the master bedroom, featuring a 6' super-king bed and Market Place views. The family bathroom includes a copper free-standing bath, walk-in waterfall shower, his-and-hers basins, and WC.
The Vault is a separate one-bedroom property accessed via the shared enclosed private terrace. Located at ground-floor level, it is entirely separate from the four-bedroom house, making it perfect for groups seeking extra space and a little more privacy. This contains an open-plan kitchen, dining, and sitting area with a dining table, seating for two, and a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine. Bedroom five has a 4'6" double bed, and the bathroom includes a bath with shower over.
Originally built as a merchant’s house, 17 Market Place has a fascinating history. In 1848, it briefly served as the Sole Bay Academy and later operated as a bank for much of the 20th century. Residential units were added to the upper floors in the 1970s, with The Vault now offering a unique contemporary stay while retaining its historic charm. Today, it offers a unique and memorable base to explore Southwold, just moments from the market square and a short stroll to the beach.

The Lookout? more like the lookWOW! Seven ladies walked in for a weekend of fund and relaxation - & none of use wanted to leave! The place is so beautiful we were convinced we'd accidently stumbled into the pages of a coastal interiors magazine. The beds, comfier than a cloud wearing a memory form mattress. We slept like queens after days of laughter, wine and repeatedly sayings. 'I could live here, you know'. Thank you for the most wonderful stay! with love The Southwold Seven

Absolutely loved our short break staying at The Lookout in Southwold. The accommodation is beautifully decorated, stylishly furnished and situated in the most perfect location, central to town and a few minutes walk to the beach. We cooked a roast on Easter Sunday and found the kitchen perfectly stocked with everything we required. The only negative was that we wished we could have stayed longer.
