About this property

The Lime Kiln Keepers Cottage is a welcoming canalside cottage resting near Ellesmere, Shropshire, offering off-road parking for two cars, an inviting, open-plan living space, and a garden with decking that draws you towards the water’s edge. A hallway with space for coats and boots provides a practical welcome on arrival. Designed with relaxed getaways in mind, this appealing retreat is well-suited to families or friends who want to blend time outdoors with easy, open-plan living. Step inside to the heart of the home, where the kitchen, dining area, and sitting area flow together, warmed by underfloor heating on the ground floor and an electric fire that creates a gentle glow as evening falls.

This open-plan space also features a stable door and a Velux window, helping to bring in fresh air and natural light. Gather at the dining table to share simple suppers and local produce, then settle on the sofa to stream a film on the Smart TV, choose from a selection of games, while plans for the next day take shape. The ground-floor twin bedroom, complete with its own TV, and storage, offers a practical and flexible sleeping arrangement, especially for mixed groups or multi-generational stays. Upstairs, the king-size bedroom provides additional space with a sofa bed, giving guests room to spread out or create a quiet reading corner.

A sleek ground-floor shower room with a walk-in shower and heated towel rail completes the interior, offering an invigorating start or end to the day. Outside, the garden beckons with decking and furniture for atmospheric evenings under the stars, with a front outdoor seating area furnished with a bistro set, adding a memorable touch to waterside escapes. The decked garden sits right on the Shropshire Union Canal, where boats pass by throughout the day, and a lakeside walk can be enjoyed directly from the doorstep. Wander along nearby paths to soak up the Shropshire scenery, or take a short drive into Ellesmere to explore the meres, independent shops, and waterside walks.

Venture further to Oswestry for heritage-rich streets and local eateries, or spend a day in Shrewsbury, discovering timber-framed buildings, lakeside parks, and a vibrant mix of shops and cafés. Colemere lake is a special site of scientific interest and it is an internationally protected wetland landscape with wildlife, birdsong and countryside walks. Blending waterside charm with thoughtful touches, The Lime Kiln Keepers Cottage offers a rewarding base for exploring Shropshire.

The pretty market town of Ellesmere with its Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings quietly nestles between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal, in an area renowned as Shropshire's Lakeland. Steeped in history and originally fortified as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, this peaceful town boasts a lovely church with a 15th century roof and was home to Thomas Telford during the building of the canal network in the late 18th century. The town also boasts a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as an abundance of entertainment on and around the meres in the surrounding area. Stroll through Cremorne Gardens, go fishing or boating, take some time to explore Colemere Country Park with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks, or walk along the canal. A lovely location offering something for everyone at any time of year.
