Guests find the cottage to be very comfortable, with special mentions of the cosy atmosphere, efficient central heating, comfortable beds, and the overall homely feel that the property provides.
The property is lauded for its well-equipped kitchen, quality appliances, and additional conveniences such as a utility room. The presence of a wood-burner and the provision of essentials like washing powder and dishwasher tablets are also appreciated.
The owners' thoughtfulness is evident through the provision of welcome treats such as cakes and chocolates, although it is politely noted that such gifts, while delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.
This lovely, stone-built, Grade II listed cottage is situated in the heart of the pretty hilltop village of Heptonstall, West Yorkshire. Located on the cobbled main street, with pubs, village store and tea rooms on the doorstep, this delightful cottage is an ideal base to unwind or to explore the wonderful West Yorkshire countryside. The cottage has been sympathetically renovated and tastefully furnished to a high standard and is beautifully appointed throughout. Entering the cottage from the cobbled street, you pass into the cosy sitting room with its stone fireplace, woodburner and comfy sofa, ideal for a relaxing evening with a drink, after a day's sightseeing. The impressive kitchen also has a table for meals, or on sunny days dine alfresco in the walled patio area outside the cottage. On the first floor there is a sumptuous bedroom with views over the cobbled streets and rooftops towards Hebden Bridge, plus a spacious, luxurious bathroom. Off the landing is a spiral staircase leading up to a cosy single bedroom in the eaves of the cottage. If you are feeling energetic, why not explore nearby Hardcastle Crags, a beautiful wooded valley with more than 400-acres of unspoilt woodland with the 19th century Gibson Mill at its heart? There are tumbling streams and glorious waterfalls, all criss-crossed by more than 15 miles of footpaths. The Pennine Way footpath and bridleway also pass within a mile of the cottage. A charming cottage for a relaxing break at any time of the year.
The village of Heptonstall is set high on a prominent hillside above its close neighbour, Hebden Bridge. Heptonstall is one of West Yorkshire's best kept secrets; a wonderfully preserved village with a main street that has changed very little in the last 200 years. Formerly an important centre for hand-loom weaving, the village still retains its original trading hall, while the old Grammar School, by the churchyard, is now a museum testifying to the village's illustrious past. In the centre are the two remaining pubs, the Cross Inn, believed to date from the early 17th century, and the White Lion, rumoured to be haunted by a Roundhead on a horse, a throwback to when the village was besieged during the Civil War.
