Stunning traditional 1711 Riverside Dales cottage situated between Grassington and Kettlewell. You'll never forget your stay at Redmire Barn. The gorgeous period holiday home dates from the early 17th Century and has been renovated to a very high standard with contemporary touches sitting comfortably beside original features. The cottage has two ensuite bedrooms and a flexible layout that can suit couples, friends or families. It is beside the River Skirfare, where guests including your furry friends can paddle or go wild swimming along the river during the day, and sit next to the fire pit and enjoy the magnificent Dark Sky views at night. Favourite activities include walking, mountain biking, caving, climbing, and fishing. Pen-y-Ghent, Gordale Scar, and Jane's Foss waterfalls are all within easy reach, of Skipton.
Redmire Barn is the perfect place from which to explore and enjoy the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. The charming traditional Dales barn conversion which was built in 1711 is in Hawkswick with a riverside garden and amazing views of Littondale. The owners have carried out a sympathetic renovation creating a comfortable, stylish and welcoming cottage that suits modern lifestyles while retaining original features that give the barn conversion its character. There are two lovely ensuite king-size bedrooms sleeping up to four adults (plus two infants under the age of two in cots) with zip-linked beds that can be made up as doubles or twins to provide flexible sleeping with room for a travel cot (which we can provide), so ideal for families and friends as well as couples. We now accept dogs too, the Littondale Valley is a dog walkers paradise. (Please refer to separate rules/ info for dogs emailed upon request).
Hawkswick is utterly beautiful in every season and almost every type of weather. It is quieter than the much larger neighbouring Wharfdale, which means you'll have even more space to enjoy the spectacular views and sense of enormous space. An ancient glacier shaped the landscape with the dale's highest peak, Pen-y-Ghent, one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and Ingleborough, the second highest mountain in the Yorkshire Dales. Not forgetting the spectacular Great Whernside. The scenery underground is no less spectacular. The area is a favourite for caving with Stump Cross Caverns, White Scar caves and Boreham Cave system are all within easy reach. For the 'outdoorsy' type, you'll find the area lends itself to many other activities; such as climbing, The cottage is less than two miles from Arncliffe. You can walk to The Falcon (Arncliffe) a dog friendly pub which served as the original "Woolpack" in Emmerdale and where beer is still served from traditional jugs.
Walking (hiking) and cycling are two popular activities for both locals and visitors. There is a huge choice of footpaths, cycling routes made famous by the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire. Serious hikers can challenge themselves to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks walk, while those seeking less of a challenge can enjoy the beauty of a walk along the river. The views around Redmire Barn stretch to Malham and Kinsey will have you stopping not only to catch your breath but also to marvel at the sheer scale and magnificence of the landscape. There are also an abundance of breathtaking water-fall walks in the surrounding area, such as Janet's Foss/ Ingleton fall walk/ and the Aysgarth falls. Anglers can try their skills in the River Skirfare. This river was named by the Vikings (skirr meaning "clear") and flows beside the cottage. It's known as a tricky stretch of water but excellent for wild brown trout, whose fishing season is between March and September. Wild water swimming is another fun and popular activity amongst locals and visitors alike, with a famous natural bathing spot two miles up-river from the barn called 'Water-babies' said to be the inspiration for the film/novel by Charles Kingsley. Harry Potter fans will enjoy spotting famous scenes from the films. The enjoyment does not need to stop when the sun sets as the Littondale Valley is part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park Dark Sky Reserve - the largest of its kind in the UK with a number of Dark Sky events throughout the year.
Redmire Barn is just perfect if you seek peace and tranquility, but it is not completely cut off. Skipton with its medieval castle is only 13 miles south of the cottage, with a wide choice of places to eat, drink and shop. Grassington and kettlewell are both within 10 mins drive. You're within easy reach of places like Malham Cove and Gordale Scar, with plenty of typical dales villages and towns scattered around to visit like the spa town of Harrogate, Wendsleydale, Hawes and Settle.
