Wethercote Cottage is consistently praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and idyllic location within a working farm, offering stunning views and peaceful surroundings. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the warm welcome from the owners. The cottage's proximity to walking trails and local attractions adds to its charm, making it a favoured retreat for those seeking a rural escape in North Yorkshire.
Reviewers unanimously commend the cottage for its immaculate condition, noting it as spotless, very clean, and tidy. The high standard of cleanliness contributes significantly to the positive guest experience.
The cottage's location is highly praised for its tranquillity, scenic views, and proximity to walking paths like the Cleveland Way. Its central position allows easy access to the Moors, Dales, and coastal towns, making it an ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire.
Guests find the cottage to be very comfortable, warm, and cosy, with special mentions of comfortable beds and a homely atmosphere. The presence of farm animals and nature adds to the overall comfort and enjoyment.
The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and offers strong WiFi. However, some guests noted the shower facilities could be improved for safety, and the early departure time was a minor inconvenience for some.
While guests do not consistently mention gifts, the lack of welcoming tea & biscuits/cake was noted in one review. As such gifts are not a guaranteed amenity, the score is set to null, but the overall hospitality and friendliness of the hosts are well-regarded.
Helmsley 7 miles.
A traditional, stone-built, semi-detached cottage, adjoining the owners' property on their working livestock farm near Old Byland, seven miles from the delightful market town of Helmsley. Set in a peaceful location within the National Park, Wethercote Cottage has far reaching views across the North York Moors. Cosy and comfortable, the open-plan living area retains much charm and character, including ancient low ceiling beams and pine doors. A large, lawned garden complements the setting; the perfect place to sit and relax. With numerous public footpaths in the area providing excellent walking opportunities, and Thirsk and Helmsley, with their pretty market squares, tempting tea rooms and country inns within very easy reach, this makes for a great holiday. This lovely cottage is very close to Sutton Bank Bikes Ltd, where you can hire bikes for the day and explore the many cycle-ways and trails nearby. Hop onto the Cleveland Way, which passes close by, leading from Helmsley, through Thirsk and around the North York Moors National Park to the coast and down to Filey. Local attractions include Duncombe Park stately home, the James Herriot museum, Castle Howard and the historic City of York, to name but a few. A superb Yorkshire cottage in a terrific location.
Situated on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park and set in a sheltered corner of Upper Ryedale, Helmsley is a vibrant market town with a spacious square. The cottage was very clean, warm, comfortable and well equipped. My young grandsons enjoyed seeing the sheep and cows every morning and were delighted to be eating fresh farm eggs for breakfast once they realised that keeping them warm underneath your jumper was not going to result in baby chicks. Itâs close to Sutton Bank activity centre so great for bikers and walkers as is the whole area. The only downside was that there was no handsoap in the bathroom or kitchen but next time, Iâll bring my own.

Cottage was absolutely gorgeous and very cosy. Well equipped and very clean. If you want somewhere remote with no through traffic this is the place. Greeted by the owner on arrival and they checked everything was ok later in the week. Would highly recommend if you want to chill out, read or just spend some quality time with friends or family.
