These semi-detached farmhouses The Barnhouse (ref W42980) and The Farmhouse (ref W42979) have been carefully co-ordinated throughout and are set within the grounds of the Caravan Club site in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. As such, they enjoy breath-taking views of the surrounding open countryside.
Walk direct from the door over the nearby moors or take a 5-minute stroll into the nearby traditional market town of Hawes. Here you will find a good mix of shops with something for everyone including antiques, traditional country clothing, fashion and gift shops interspersed with tea shops, restaurants and pubs. Alternatively visit the Wensleydale Creamery, famous for its cheese endorsed by Wallace and Gromit or visit the Dales Centre Museum. Nearby Semerwater, a large, natural lake provides a wealth of activities such as swimming, fishing (licence required) and sailing. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

A lovely, spacious property that was very comfortable and warm. It is in a great location for exploring the Dales and within walking distance to the town of Hawes.We did, however, have some issues. One was sorted immediately by the onsite temporary manager when we arrived, so service provided by him and his wife was very good. He told us that they were not actually responsible for the cottage and agreed with the issues we raised with him. The property accommodates 8 but the kitchen equipment is sparce/basic, with only 8 of everything including cutlery and crockery. You had to wash up each time you wanted a meal rather than put the dishwasher on once a day. No large pans to cook meals for 8. No grill pan mesh. The frying pans could not be used as they are not the right type for the induction hob. It felt like the property has just been refurbished but not enough equipment has been considered. The water pressure is quite poor, especially in the upstairs bathroom and the shower head was leaking, with some plumbers tape added which did not stop the leaking.We also had to suffer workmen doing the roof on the games room, with 2 industrial skips in the parking areas for the cottages, and workmen's vans parked up outside too. Had to ask them to move so we could get out. The views were spoiled by the above too. The skips were moved a few days after our arrival. We were sent an email a week before we arrived to tell that work was ongoing though it was too late to do anything about that for us. On a plus side, the integrated fridge/freezer was a great size. We were able to get a grocery shop delivered to the house, which saves the hassle of shopping en route.

Overall a good stay and lovely setting,one or two problems though took the shine off. Showers were poor no water pressure and the screen was faulty. Landing window requires a blind and the main oven shelf was broken. More information on what essentials are available such as hair dryers, cleaning products etc so we know what we need to bring with us.
