About this property

Ravensworth 1.7 miles. Tucked away in the idyllic village of Kirby Hill near Ravensworth in North Yorkshire, is this wonderful three-bedroom house, Armstrong House. Enjoying a fantastic location with easy access to the North York Moors National Park and the bustling market towns of Richmond and Barnard Castle, Armstrong House is a superb pet-friendly base for a group or family of six, plus their canine companion. Park-up on the driveway with space with three cars, before being greeted by a delightful front garden with decking and furniture, perfect for alfresco dining on warmer days. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, with handy dishwasher, washer/dryer and TV, ready to enjoy at the dining table for six people.

After dinner, retire to the sitting room, featuring high ceilings and exposed beams, where you can relax on the plush seating in front of your favourite film on the TV, as your pooches snuggle up in front of the crackling woodburning stove. Wash away the day with a refreshing shower in the sleek ground-floor shower room, before wrapping yourself in a toasty towel, courtesy of the heated towel rail. Completing the ground-floor are two well-appointed bedrooms, a double and a twin, ideal for those with limited mobility. Continue up to the first floor, where you will find the third and final bedroom, a well-presented double with its own en-suite featuring a beautiful freestanding bath, ideal for a blissful soak at the end of the day!

Explore the local village, where you will find the welcoming 18th-century Shoulder of Mutton pub right on your doorstep, where you can tuck-in to traditional pub grub and tasty local ales after an adventure-filled day! Continue on to the pretty village of Ravensworth, where you can purchase fresh and local produce from the Stoneygate Farm Shop & Café, sample the delights of The Bay Horse Inn, enjoy a leisurely stroll around the picturesque village green or follow one of the many circular walks leading from the village to the surrounding towns and villages. Spend some time in Richmond, dubbed the ‘jewel of North Yorkshire’, with the historic wonders of Richmond Castle, Easby Abbey and Friary Gardens waiting to be explored; don’t forget to check out the fantastic community enterprise of The Station or embark on a walk to the River Swale Waterfalls!

Next stop is Barnard Castle, where you will find the popular Bowed Museum, the English Heritage Barnard Castle and the wildlife rich Deepdale Nature Reserve. For exceptional walks and cycling routes, explore the Yorkshire Dales National Park which is within easy reach and offers a wealth of nature reserves, caves, and imposing peaks. Your adventure to the Dales awaits at Armstrong House.

Just north of Richmond, on the Swale River's tributary, is the sleepy community of Ravensworth with its unspoiled natural beauty. The village is centred on a big, lovely village green and is made up of charming, worn sandstone cottages with their peculiar "Yorkshire" roofs, a blend of soft red pantiles and slate. The Bay Horse Inn, a well-known establishment, can be found at the further end of the green. Beautiful trails connect Ravensworth to the nearby communities, making it possible for tourists to take a variety of circular excursions.

A gift of prosecco and cookies from the owner was a lovely touch (plus we got to meet Flo the Border Collie). The location of the cottage was ideal for exploring the countryside, very peaceful and a friendly pub right on the doorstep. We would have no hesitation in recommending Armstrong House to anyone looking for a relaxing break away.

Finished to a really high standard with lovely fixtures and fittings! Mum did mention that there were no baking trays for sausage and bacon on a morning. Prosecco and biscuits on arrival were a lovely touch! No quibbles with property and stay at all! Thanks for having us!
