Set within walking distance of Richmond town centre, this stone built, semi-detached property which is over 200 years old, provides the most comfortable accommodation. You can literally park up and travel everywhere on foot for the rest of your stay. Tastefully decorated to a very good standard with nods to character and charm, with two bedrooms, one of which is accessed on the ground floor, you are in for a relaxing stay. In the warmer weather you may like to sit out in the enclosed rear courtyard and eat al fresco, at breakfast or supper, each equally appealing. In the winter months a cosy living room with gas wood burner is perfect to gather around with a glass of wine in the evening. The kitchen/dining room is by contrast contemporary and is set within a light, bright and airy room. Large picture windows look onto the garden and Velux windows let the light pour in during the day, or allow for star gazing at night.
Richmond is a market town filled with lots of possibilities, whether it be spending a few days taking in the culture and the social side or using it as a base to explore the glorious Yorkshire Dales. Out and about in Richmond you are spoilt for choice. It is the perfect place to amble around its cobbled streets where there are an interesting array of shops, galleries and tea shops. It is famed for its 11th century castle which sits proudly on the skyline and provides a lovely walk whether around the ramparts or riverside. You can walk from one side of this historic town to the other and take in the sights. The last train left Richmond station in 1969 and now the station has been brought back to life and is a bustling centre hosting art and craft exhibitions, a three-screen cinema, café, shops selling interesting jewellery, cards and textiles, an award-winning bakery/delicatessen, micro-brewery and an ice cream parlour. On the same site there is an indoor swimming pool and health club. The Coast to Coast walk passes by the station and through Swaledale with many other walks to be enjoyed. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

    "very nice place to stay"
    Lucie – 25 Aug 2019
"Lovely cottage although the location isn’t very practical for young children due to a steep walk on a small path to a village. The Cottage supplied everything and more that u needed for your stay although wasn’t the cleanest but did the job. Unfortunately the cottage is advertised as dog friendly but this not the case once we left they tried to charge us for an extra cleaning fee due to muddy paw print and dogs hairs. I my self do not come on holiday to clean and also I did not leave the property in a state our dogs were crated at night and out with us in the day!!On the morning we was due to leave the cleaner turned up early as we was trying to leave the property which made us feel rushed and I thought was unprofessional of the company."

"Beautifully equipped cottage about a ten minute walk from market square. Very comfortable and cosy"
    Ann – 11 Jun 2019
"The site needs to show that the cottage is uphill which we did not realise. Also although overall we were pleased with the cottage there was a distinct lack of information on how to operate the various appliances such as the cooker and in our case the front door. There is a particular way the front door needs to be closed in order to lock it and it was not one we had come across before. However it was dealt with quickly by the company and the caretaker. Suggest some instructions need to be left for this."

"Gallowgate is a nice little cottage close to the town. It's location is okay but not being able to park outside or at the back lets it down. The nearest road has double yellow lines, so you have to park a few hundred yards away. If you are fit and well, this should not be an issue. It has a kitchen that is well equipped, the bedrooms are comfortable with nice bedding and a small lounge with a television."

"Excellent - had a lovely week in Richmond. location of cottage is great, 5/10 mins walk into the centre, maybe a little longer going back as the hills slow you down! Cottage is one of the better ones we've stayed in, was clean, modern, cosy and every thing you needed. I would say the only downfall could be the 2nd bedroom having double bed - 2 singles would be better and then you'd have option to push together, but the kids managed. plenty of places nearby to explore."

"Bright , fresh and a real home from home cottage. Good quality bedlinen, towels and fixtures and fittings. Lovely helpful neighbours/community. Dog friendly garden, which in the warmer months would be a great place to eat/relax etc The cottage is located just a short walk downhill (a little steep coming home if mobility is a problem) in to Richomond, where you'll find a great choice of local shops and restaurants. Our only regret is not booking 2 weeks here!"

"Lovely cottage fully equipped for every need. Great back gravelled yard area. We are big walkers 50 mikes in four days but forgot how hilly Richmond was!! Gallowgate itself is rather steep so not ideal if not fit ? would definitely recommend and return again. Sarah & Richard"

"Can't fault the cottage at all. It was stocked with every appliance you could possibly need, lovely comfortable beds - very cosy indeed. Is situated on a steep bank so you need to bear that in mind if anyone has walking difficulties. On a main road but the double glazing does a fantastic job of keeping the noise out."
    Adrian – 15 Nov 2018
"What a beautiful cottage for a 4 night stay, it has all the comforts of home, and more, very clean with a large dining area/kitchen , cosy lounge area and very comfortable beds, bathroom facilities spot on with powerful shower, the cottage is situated near a superb dog walk on the old racecourse and your only a short walk away from the town centre and the fabulous river Swale with other walks nearby..."

"The cottage was clean and warm, but was not suitable for the elderly people in my party. The cottage is on a busy road which was difficult to cross with the elderly. I also received a phone call asking me if I would like off road parking for an extra £20 a week. A nice house but not suitable for me, thank you"
