Coral Cottage is a well-maintained, cosy property praised for its perfect setting and comfortable furnishings. Guests enjoyed the proximity to Castle Howard and the peaceful North Yorkshire location. While some minor issues were noted, the overall experience was positive, with the estate team being accommodating and the cottage providing a warm and luxurious base for exploration.
Most guests found the cottage to be immaculate, though a few mentioned cleaning issues such as dead flies, cobwebs, and a need for more kitchen towels. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than a trend.
The location is highly praised for its beauty and proximity to Castle Howard. It serves as a peaceful and scenic base for exploring the area, contributing to a fantastic week for guests.
Guests found the beds super comfortable and the towels thick and fluffy. However, one guest mentioned an uncomfortably hot water temperature and another a sunken bed, slightly lowering the score.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, but some guests reported issues with hot water temperature, complex light switches, and a lack of TV reception. The presence of mouse traps and a thin oven glove were also noted.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.
Coral Cottage is an 18th Century stone cottage of historical and contemporary charm. Each room is unique, comfortably furnished and decorated with different blends of vintage pieces from Castle Howard, and antiques and art from across the country. The cottage also benefits from a wood burning stove, enclosed front and rear gardens and ample private parking.
The delightful village of Coneysthorpe on the Castle Howard Estate sits at the heart of the Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Perfectly placed in rural North Yorkshire; the North York Moors National Park, Yorkshire Coast and medieval city of York are all easily accessible. Castle Howard, which is just a stone’s throw from the village, is one of Britain’s finest stately homes and was built in the 18th century by Sir John Vanbrugh. The nearby market town of Malton boasts an impressive array of independent food outlets, cafes, restaurants and shops with popular food markets taking place each month.
The Howardian Hills and North York Moors offer endless footpaths and bridleways and are popular with cyclists, walkers and nature lovers. The rugged Yorkshire Coast includes towns such as Whitby and Scarborough as well as smaller fishing villages including Sandsend and Robin Hood’s Bay, all within an hours drive. The city of York is just 15 miles away and offers many attractions including museums, galleries, river cruises, York Minster, the medieval walls and a huge variety of shop and restaurants.

Coral Cottage is a haven of peace and quiet within easy reach of Castle Howard and Malton . We had a relaxed Christmas holiday and loved the decorations , the log burner and the warm bathrooms . Plenty of hot water for five adults . The decor and furniture is perfect with plenty of interesting pictures and comfy sofas and the boot room / utility was a great addition for muddy clothes
