Guests say

Anchor Cottage in Whitby is praised for its cleanliness, central location, and thoughtful touches like a welcome hamper. While some guests found the steep stairs challenging, the property's charm and amenities generally received positive remarks. The proximity to local attractions and the inclusion of modern conveniences were appreciated, although there were comments about the need for better maintenance and clearer parking information.

Most guests found the cottage to be very clean, with several positive comments about its presentation. However, a few mentioned issues with dust, cobwebs, and a mouldy smell, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is highly praised for being central and close to amenities, with easy access to Whitby's attractions. Some noise was mentioned due to the central location, but it did not significantly detract from the overall positive feedback.

Guests generally found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy. However, the steep stairs and low beams presented challenges for some, affecting the comfort score.

The cottage is equipped with necessary facilities and some modern touches. Points were deducted for maintenance issues like stiff windows and the need for additional safety features on the stairs.

The welcome hamper and other thoughtful touches were frequently mentioned and appreciated. It should be noted that such gestures, while delightful, may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.

Also we feel that the stairs are extremely unsafe I myself slipped and managed to save myself from a nasty fall. Outside the back door could do with a tidy up. In general the cottage is lovely but I don't think we would stay again mainly because of the issues mentioned.

It was warmer outside than indoors . The thermostat for the heating was ornamental rather than useful

Unfortunately, the inaccurate information about location ('right turning 50 yards after Yorkshire Cottages office' rather than 'immediately after') meant we ended up going round the one-way system again trying to find it. There was no scratch-off parking card in the property, which meant we had to drive back into town to find somewhere that sold them. We drove to the Co op (as it was the only place we knew with free parking). They didn't sell them, but a staff member gave us a parking disc. Fortunately, we found a traffic warden near the property who showed us where we could park overnight. By this time, we'd wasted over an hour of our holiday, and tempers were frayed. Not the start we wanted for a break that was meant to be a treat! Perhaps you should consider posting the scratch cards to customers in advance of their holiday to avoid this happening again. Inside the property, there is a strong smell of damp in the kitchen and black mould on the stair wall. I have a rare lung disease (aspergillosis) which is caused (and exacerbated) by black mould, so I was unable to use the kitchen. Again - very disappointing. Finally, the mirrors in the bedrooms need hanging on the walls. I had to sit on the floor to be able to use the mirror to do my hair and make up. Not ideal!
