Harlie House in Whitby receives high praise for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the quiet location, proximity to local amenities, and easy access to both the town and beach. The property is especially popular with dog owners due to its enclosed garden and dog-friendly touches. While most reviews are very positive, a few guests noted minor issues such as the lack of a full freezer, occasional garden maintenance, and some noise from neighbouring properties. Overall, guests found it a cosy, welcoming base for exploring Whitby and the surrounding area.
The majority of guests describe the property as spotless, very clean, and well-presented. Several reviewers specifically mention not needing to clean on arrival, which is rare for them. Only one review mentioned having to pick up after a previous guest's dog, but this was an isolated comment.
The location is frequently praised for being quiet, ideal for dog walking, and within walking distance (15–25 minutes) of Whitby town centre, the beach, and local shops. A few guests noted it is further out than the old town, but most found the walk pleasant and the setting peaceful. One review mentioned noise from neighbours and seagulls, but this was not a common complaint.
Guests consistently describe the house as cosy, comfortable, warm, and homely. Beds are generally considered comfortable, though one guest found a mattress in need of updating and another found the bed a bit small. The quiet cul-de-sac location also contributes to a restful stay.
The house is well equipped with modern amenities, en-suite bedrooms, and a good-sized enclosed garden. Several guests appreciated the kitchen, though some noted the lack of a full freezer and limited cooking equipment. A few minor maintenance points were raised, such as the need for an outside light and occasional garden upkeep.
Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as dog baskets, treats, and essentials like tea, coffee, and cleaning supplies. While these gestures are appreciated, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

You are located nearby part of the Cinder Track, a public footpath which was formerly the railway leading to the coastal towns of Robin Hood’s Bay, Ravenscar and Scarborough – ideal for walkers or cyclists. The cottage has its own lockable cycle storage so you can bring your bikes with you. You are only a 10-minute walk from the cliff tops with the zigzagging footpaths leading down to the golden beach below. You’re in a peaceful location away from the bustling heart of the old town, which is around a 25-minute stroll away and bursting with quirky shops, cafés as well as the pretty harbour.
The town’s colourful history is one of the many draws to Whitby. So little of the old town has changed over hundreds of years. There are still ships being built where Captain Cook’s vessel the Endeavour was handmade back in 1764 ready for the first voyage to Australia, you can now sail across the harbour in a replica or have your dinner in a restaurant on the ship in the harbour. You can explore the winding streets that Dracula used to roam according to Bram Stoker’s famous book, which has inspired movies and TV shows as well as the annual Goth events.
The town is very proud of its seafaring heritage; enjoy smoked kippers, fresh crab or award winning fish and chips. Further along the coast there are some picturesque bays, villages and towns to visit, including Robin Hoods Bay, Staithes, Runswick Bay, Scarborough and Saltburn. All perfect for a memorable day out. This is a great base for exploring the wonders of this beautiful corner of Yorkshire. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Excellent cottage.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The host had kindly left a doggy basket with blankets bowls and treats for our dog. There was soap, loo rolls, dishwasher tablets, clothes wash and softner there to use. As well as tea, coffee, sugar, salt and vinegar. All very handy to have as soon as we arrived. Lidl was a short walk away and thwre was a garage and a Spar opposite. There was a lovely walk into town along the beach front that took 15-20 mins. We thought the location was perfect and the house was clean and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it, we were 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 pets and although the property is small, we all had enough space.
