Guests say

The Ticket Office in Whitby is a unique and quirky cottage that offers a memorable stay, particularly for train enthusiasts. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, the proximity to Whitby, and the thoughtful touches like a welcome tray. While some find the upstairs area compact and the parking occasionally challenging, the charm of the property and its location generally outweigh these concerns.

Most guests found the cottage to be clean and well-maintained, with only a few mentioning the need for a deeper clean in certain areas. The overall impression is that cleanliness is a priority for the property.

The location is highly praised for its convenience to Whitby, the scenic walks, and the proximity to a friendly local pub. The presence of trains and the ease of access to public transport are also appreciated.

While many guests found the cottage cosy and relaxing, some raised concerns about the comfort of the bed and the size of the shower. The unique layout may not be to everyone's taste, but overall, the property provides a comfortable stay.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, but some guests noted issues with the TV and DVD player, and suggested improvements to the upstairs configuration. Despite this, the facilities meet the needs of most guests.

Guests often mention the welcome tray with biscuits, tea, coffee, and milk as a thoughtful gesture. However, it should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Small outside seating area, under the arches, with bistro table and chairs.

The little North York Moors village of Ruswarp is just two miles inland from Whitby on the boundary of the National Park. It has a general store, public house and tearoom. There is an impressive viaduct crossing the River Esk, which is one of the region's major landmarks. Over five million bricks were used to build the viaduct, it is 120 feet high and was built to carry the Scarborough to Whitby railway line. The line was closed in 1965 and now the viaduct is a walking and cycle trail. Visitors can enjoy river and sea fishing or spend time boating on the river. As well as the famous North York Steam Railway, train enthusiasts can also enjoy a trip on Ruswarp's miniature steam railway. This village is in a superb location for a memorable holiday.

We loved it and he loved that he could film and get still photos of the steam train, The cottage was lovely and quirky and everything you need. Thank you for the milk and cake on arrival He loved the spiral staircase and the quirkiness of getting into bed. From kettle to coffee machine and oven to microwave fridge to dishwasher plenty of pots and pans thank you hopefully we will be back again !! The only thing we had a problem is the maple trees sap all over the car, as we didn’t use the car for a week, so one very sticky car !!!

It had a large living area and everything was very clean. I would say the stairs are a bit of a hazard, if anyone is half asleep or sleep walking they could go flying down them. It just requires a rope or a gate on the top of the stairs. I love the fact that it is on the station platform and the theme and age to the property. It has a great pub opposite, the staff there are so kind and friendly. I personally really enjoyed my time there and hope to be back in Spring.

We did find the bedroom not so comfortable. We are in our 70s and clambouring in and out of bed was not easy. The shower cubicle a little on the small side and we are not big people.
