The Hideaway Low Hawsker is a charming, cosy cottage in a peaceful location ideal for couples and dog owners seeking a relaxing break near Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Guests praise its cleanliness, well-equipped interior, secure garden, and thoughtful touches such as welcome hampers. The cottage is compact, which may not suit those with mobility issues or larger dogs, but most found it comfortable and inviting. The owners are friendly and helpful, and the property offers excellent access to scenic walks and local amenities, making it a popular choice for repeat visitors.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several specifically mentioning its spotless condition. However, a small number of reviews noted issues such as mould in the bathroom, dust, and occasional odours, which slightly lowered the overall impression.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay, and access to scenic walks and public transport. Guests appreciated the peaceful setting and convenience for exploring the North Yorkshire coast.
The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable by most guests, with a good use of space. However, its small size and steep stairs may not suit everyone, particularly those with mobility issues or larger dogs.
The property is well-equipped with everything needed for a self-catering stay, including a secure garden and modern amenities. Some minor maintenance issues were mentioned, such as drainage smells and small bathrooms, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Many guests appreciated the welcome hampers, often including treats for both humans and dogs, and the friendly, helpful communication from the owners. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The cottage has undergone a major renovation that has been completed to a very good standard, with tasteful décor and furnishings throughout. There is an enclosed private garden area outside that is perfect for your dog to run around in while you relax and enjoy a glass of wine. There’s also a barbecue area for making the most of the warm weather.
Secluded yet surprisingly close to town, the seaside resort of Whitby is just a few miles away, easily accessible by car or on foot. The town is home to a jam-packed calendar of events which take place all year round, and you can take a tour bus to see the fascinating sites, which include the stunning Abbey and St Mary’s Church high above the cliffs. There are also regular boat cruises that offer a different aspect of the beautiful town from the water. A day trip to Robin Hood’s Bay is a must during your stay at The Hideaway. Just 3 miles away, the bay is full of character and charm, thanks to its cobbled, narrow streets and alleyways lined with an eclectic mix of individually-run shops, pubs and tearooms.
A little closer to home, Hawsker has a warm and cosy local pub that serves local food, and for the outdoorsy types, there’s a disused railway line only a few hundred yards away that stretches some 21 miles from Whitby to Scarborough.
The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, with over 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways that cobweb the rolling heather-clad moorland and meet in the pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which carries its passengers from Pickering in the south northward to Grosmont, and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. A little further afield are the rolling hills and picture-perfect river valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. Beach 2 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

This is our second year at this property as it is just an incredible place to stay. The location is in a beautiful location between Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay with an old railway track to walk in either direction. As with last year, we felt welcomed immediately (and they remembered us) which is always a nice touch. Highly recommended, not just for the accommodation but the area as a whole.

Cosy cottage with welcoming hosts. Easy walking to Whitby and Robin Hoods bay. Local pub, Hare and Hounds, good food at a fair price. Our dog loved the area, fascinated by the owners friendly chickens. A lovely break away from it all.

A lovely little place. Well appointed.Good location for getting to lots of lovely places on the coast, out of the hustle of bustle of Whitby. Being that bit remote phone signal and wifi are patchy but means you can truly get away from it all.
