Dating back to 1890, this former fisherman’s cottage is sited directly on the Cleveland Way, and 100 yards from the beach and harbour in the traditional fishing village of Staithes. This terraced holiday property, refurbished in 2020, sits amid the colourful cottages that tumble down the steep cobbled bank to the harbour front, where fishermen still land their catch today. Cliff top walks provide stunning coastal views to Whitby, while Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay, Scarborough and Filey are all easily reached. Shops 300 yards, pubs and restaurant 100 yards.

The cottage is in a lovely location, is generally well-equipped, and has everything you would need. It could have been a little cleaner (e.g. under the bed, and under the foldaway table in the kitchen - where it obviously hadn't been moved). But the cottage is generally lovely and quite homely. TV in the lounge and two bedrooms, plus DVD players - good stock of films in the cottage. The bathroom and kitchen are modern, and everything is fully functioning. We had a problem with one of the beds when we arrived, but the owner really pulled out all the stops to resolve it (and did). The mattress on the double bed needs to be replaced; it is very soft. You have to walk down the hill into Staithes and then slightly back up the other side to get to the cottage (and obviously in reverse to get out of the village!), but this was more manageable than we had expected. There is no parking, but you can take the car down to unload/load - a little tricky, but doable, although you may have to reverse back down the hill. We used private parking at the top of the hill, and that worked well for us. There are a couple of really good pubs for food very close by, and some nice cafes. The location really is stunning, and I would stay here again.

Cute little cottage. A great base for all the local areas. Word of warning the property is up for sale so people pass g by often press faces up to window to peer in. Was comfortable, clean and fine for us as we weren’t in the property much. Some finishing touches could be redone but as up for sale understandable why not been done. Would recommend as a cheap clean base though.

Great location loved the house but it needs some TLC. For example, •It needs a set of new mugs as the ones in the house are badly stained. •There were no hand towels left out only bath towels so I went searching for some & only found 1, there were 4 of us in the house.• The bedding & towels were kept in a cupboard in the bunk bed room, they should be in an airing cupboard of which there is a lovely one in the bathroom. • A set of drawers were in front of the ladders to the top bunk of the bunk beds so I had to move those for my granddaughter to climb in to bed. • The bedding could do with new duvet & sheets as the one in the double bedroom was old & the fitted sheet was hanging on for dear life on the corners. • A mop & bucket, hoover & other items were in the wardrobe in the bunk bed room. These will smell in there & is not the right place for storing cleaning items. Finally, the bedding & set of drawers I’ve mentioned are not the same ones on your photos on your website. You show white drawers in front of bunk bed step ladder & crisp white bedding ( which I feel should be used in this type of holiday home). Sorry to sound negative, really not unhappy with this house , just that bit of TLC as I’ve said would make a huge difference & make this a more pleasant experience when staying there. I would go again just smarten it up a bit as regards all the above.
