We picked this cottage because of its great reviews so we were so disappointed. The sink to the downstairs shower room had a leak. We couldn't get the temp right on the downstairs shower so couldn't use it. The upstairs water tank wasn’t sufficient for a hot shower. There was a serious damp smell really strong in the living room and on arriving the cottage was extremely cold as no heating was on and it took ages to heat the place up! (Don’t know if it had been empty for a while). Think the front door leaks too as the door mat was soaking. Unfortunately these problems will put us off returning, which is such a shame as it’s in a lovely setting. Just little things which can be put right, I’m sure.

The property is quite isolated along a narrow road which was difficult to find in the dark. The place was comfortable and warm. There were problems with getting the shower in the downstairs bathroom to get to a reasonable temperature. We thought that the kitchenware was a bit of a stretch for 6, (we were only 4 in the end). It would be useful to have a book with how to use the appliances in the property as well as recommendations for local services, attractions etc. We always come up to North Yorkshire at New Year so had a good idea of where we wanted to visit but it would be helpful for someone who hasn't been there previously. The bedrooms are small with sloping roofs. Whilst comfortable sitting room it didn't have that cosy feel for the time of year.Nevertheless it is easy access to Whitby and the North Yorkshire moors, which the dogs loved. Worthwhile checking the tides if wanting to take them along beaches, which would have been a useful addition to any information in the cottage.
