The historic hill top village of Hawnby is a designated Conservation Area of traditional stone and pantiles roof cottages, with the local pub just a short walk away. The area is also a walker’s paradise, with an enormous selection of footpaths and bridleways to choose from, including the nearby Inn Way and Cleveland Ways long distance paths. What could be more romantic than an escape to the country in a bespoke shepherd’s hut, enjoying a home cooked meal with a glass of wine out on the decking as the light fades and the colours of the sunset ebb across the sky.
Dreamer’s Hut is only 6 miles from Helmsley, one of Yorkshire’s finest market towns. This renowned market town is where the North York Moors and the Howardian Hills meet, offering fine historic views and countryside with a reputation for great Yorkshire hospitality. The market square is a meeting point for walkers, cyclists and locals alike. There are also many shops, cafés, eateries including Michelin starred restaurants, an open-air swimming pool, walled garden, castle, bird of prey centre, microbrewery, two abbey ruins and the stately home of Duncombe Park.
The Dreamer’s Hut is named after ’The Hawnby Dreamers’ - three local shepherds who in the mid-1700s, fell asleep whilst working in the fields on a hot day in the adjacent valley of Ladhill Ghyll, of which the hut overlooks. The shepherds awoke to discover they had each had the same vivid dream of spiritual awakening and being called to change their lives for the better. The three subsequently walked to Newcastle to hear the preaching of the famous John Wesley and converted to Methodism, bringing this faith back to Hawnby. This was just brilliant for the two of us. Everything that we needed was provided, we slept soundly and woke up to wonderful, quiet (almost silent) countryside each morning. Hawnby is a great base from which to reach Helmsley, the Moors or the North East coast as well as being beautiful in its own right.To address some complaints on other reviews that you might read: Flies - yes, just like everywhere in the UK this year, there were many, but if you don't want to swat, bring your fly spray: Luggage storage - there is plenty of space under the bed for small suitcases or holdalls: Clothes storage - we used the far ends of the banquette seating and coped easily: Bathroom door staying shut - yes it will slide itself open as you move around the hut, but close it gently and then put the toilet-roll holder against the door and you are fine!We shall definitely return in the future. Thank you to everyone on the Estate for giving us a lovely holiday.

Absolutely outstanding from start to end. The Hut was spotless and had everything you needed. The views are breathtaking, the woodfired hot tub was lovely and took about 3 hours to heat up. The cosy pub across the road was lovely too and food delicious, the locals so friendly. Me and my little fluff Waffle 🐕 had the best time and im already looking to come back next. Would definitely recommend 💯

This is our second visit, an excellent shepherds hut with a lovely back story, the location could not be more perfect , the hot tub is a real bonus, lying watching the stars at night is amazing as it’s a dark sky area , the pub in Hawnby ,called the owl serves absolutely incredible food.
