Take a short stroll into Lastingham to discover the local gastropub, whilst a short drive will bring you to Kirkbymoorside which has a wide array of shops, bars, and restaurants. The area is ideal for cyclists. There are a range of local attractions including Rievaulx Abbey, Castle Howard, and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at Pickering, plus there is easy access to the coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Further afield, visit the historic city of York, home to the majestic York Minster, a stunning cathedral that boasts intricate Gothic architecture and a rich history dating back centuries, whilst for those with an interest in the fascinating world of trains, the National Railway Museum York is a must-visit. The attractive old market town of Kirkbymoorside lies on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, in between the towns of Helmsley and Pickering. It is a charming place, full of Yorkshire character, and is the centre for the local farms and villages. Visitors will find a variety of shops from tea rooms, pubs and restaurants to antique shops, while there is a market day on Wednesday. The excellent walking and magnificent scenery of the National Park are close by, as are the picturesque villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham. Pickering is the base of the North York Moors Steam Railway - a ‘must do’ day out for all visitors to the area. Castle Howard, York, Whitby and the Yorkshire Coast are within easy driving distance.
