Rum, Oban offers a charming stay in a beautiful part of the world, with clean cabins and friendly staff. The on-site 'The Barn' provides a rustic bar and restaurant with excellent food. The location is praised for its proximity to Oban and the natural beauty of the Highlands, with added conveniences like an EV charger.
The majority of reviews mention that the cabin was very clean and spotless, indicating high standards of cleanliness.
The location is described as a gem, beautiful, and close to Oban, with the added bonus of an on-site pub and restaurant. However, one review mentioned difficulty finding the lodge due to poor signage.
While some guests found the accommodation comfortable and nicely appointed, others reported issues with uncomfortable sofas and fluctuating shower temperatures.
Facilities received mixed reviews, with some guests satisfied with the amenities, while others reported broken appliances, lack of kitchen essentials, and maintenance issues.
There is no mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts in the reviews, so it is not possible to assess this category.
Rum (Lodge No7), accredited with a Silver Green Tourism Award for sustainable practices and values, offers cosy, dog friendly accommodation for four, in the scenic Lerags Glen on the West Coast.
The rural location ensures peace and privacy but is still less than 3 miles from the vibrant harbour town of Oban, with views across open farmland and walks from the door. Within the same site there is a small children’s play area and The Barn, a rustic pub with plenty of character (seasonal hours, please check). A good place to catch up over a drink and tasty local fare following the days adventures. Due to its rural location, you can enjoy some amazing star gazing on a clear night.
Oban, known as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, has a wide range of seafood & fish restaurants and an excellent fish shop if you wish to cook your own. A visit to the Green Seafood Shack on the quayside is a must for those who love their shellfish. The town is otherwise known as the Gateway to the Isles with the Calmac ferry terminal on South Pier giving access by boat to Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Lismore and Barra. And there’s a handy water taxi across to Oban’s nearest island – Kerrera – from the town’s North Pier.
The town has two impressive cathedrals and an array of independent shops, including the must visit Oban Chocolate Shop and Oban Distillery. There are several supermarkets, cafes, pubs and restaurants, a cinema, golf course, swimming pool and a selection of other land and water-based sports facilities. Not forgetting safe sandy beaches for those looking for a traditional ‘seaside holiday’, numerous historical sites within easy reach including Dunstaffnage and Dunollie Castles and Inveraray Jail and for the horticulturist’s, visits to Inveraray Castle & Gardens and Arduaine Gardens are a must. There really is plenty for all ages to explore.

Lodge shortcomings such as: Weak electric shower which went from scolding to cold and back again. Not safe for kids for sure. Extractor not working. Sofas uncomfortable and not good for any back issues Very narrow parking space which only just fitted our A3. Kitchen: no scissors, tongs, scourers, pairing knife, oven glove. Short of basics. Old pans that everything stuck to. Very old small fridge with broken door shelves. Very low hot water flow. Took ages to fill a washing bowl or basin. Undersink unit has peeling doors. No washing machine. It's a pay to use on site laundrette. Damp in second bedroom wardrobe, which was only room with head height mirror for drying hair. Overpriced for what is on offer. Ate twice in the restaurant. Carvery beef was unchewable, mushroom risotto full of uncooked onion. Left early

Rum is in a beautiful part of the world. Although remote, having a nice pub and restaurant on site is a great bonus. Also there is an EV charger on site !! The cabin itself was very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend it.
