An original 18th-century fisherman’s cottage with magnificent views over the Solway Estuary with wood-burning stove and wheelchair access.. Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Nith Estuary, these detached, single-storey holiday cottages have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to a comfortable standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional delightful and cosy Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Martha’s Shore Cottage has magnificent views over the Solway Estuary from one side and was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700. Generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the door with abundant birds and wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile.. Ramp to entrance.

We had a wonderful time at this fantastic cottage. Martha's Shore Cottage is clean, warm and homely and the location is so relaxing with the river very close by and the local birdlife tweeting, chirping and chattering away merrily. We saw a Seal snacking on a fish in the river directly in front of the cottage. The views, from all rooms, are everchanging as the river is influenced by the tides. We met the owner who is lovely, and she supplied us with some tasty eggs, talked us through some of the local attractions and checked in to make sure everything was OK. We visited some excellent Castles, stone circles, had a trip down a mine, walked up Criffel and even went to see the Queen of the South FC play football. Fantastic holiday. Thanks for letting us stay.

The cottage is in a wonderful location, isolated but in very easy reach of Dumfries. We are a party of 4, of a certain age, a couple and two single friends. We all appreciated the en suite individual cubicle showers. The cottage was beautifully clean and very tastefully decorated. All equipment necessary was in the cottage,including hair dryers, fans (for the hot weather) and shower gels, hand soap. But, it was the views. We are not avid bird watchers but the views and the birds had us watching every evening. The flow of water each day going in and out with the tide bringing a variety of species with it was fascinating. We toured all around Galloway and enjoyed every thing. My highlight was the otters playing in the river. Highly Recommended Cottage. Thank you.
