On the edge of Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, this traditional single storey cottage is situated on an upland farm, in a superb hillside position, with panoramic views over the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area to the sea and islands beyond. The historic town of Gatehouse of Fleet is just a 5 minute drive, whilst Artist Town Kirkcudbright is 20 minutes.
On the edge of Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, this traditional single storey cottage is situated on an upland farm, in a superb hillside position, with panoramic views over the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area to the sea and islands beyond.
It is a simply wonderful location for a peaceful family holiday, offering seclusion, but not total isolation, with under 10 minutes away by car the picturesque town of Gatehouse of Fleet providing hotels, restaurants, shops, a delightful and testing nine hole golf course, tennis courts, river and loch fishing and numerous other nearby attractions and activities for both adults and children. With a patio for barbecues and alfresco dining, and a fully enclosed and south facing garden, pets are welcome.
Sandy beaches and rocky coves for bathing, windsurfing and sailing are within easy driving distance; sea fishing and horse riding are also available; the Forestry Commission 7Stanes mountain biking trail at Kirroughtree is around 30 minutes' drive away; and the area is a haven for wildlife, with regular sightings of deer, red squirrels, red kites, grouse, barn owls, curlews and, in November 2022, for the first time, a golden eagle (see gallery photo). From the cottage door there are extensive walks and mountain bike rides over hill, past lochs, through forestry and down the valley; Cocoa Bean Chocolate factory are all under 20 minutes' drive away; whilst Kirkcudbright Artists' Town, Castle Douglas Food Town and Wigtown Book Town are just 25, 30 and 45 minutes' drive away respectively.
The Cottage is also perfect for bracing winter holidays where its warmth and comfort provide a cosy refuge for very attractive breaks at low season rates.

Love the cottage and location. The cottage was warm and lovely to have fresh flowers and welcome packs. Lovely and clean a comfortable bed. The only downside was the noise from the showers and very low water pressure. In them.

Laghead Cottage is the perfect location to relax, recover from life’s pressures, and see amazing wildlife. Views to the Isle of Man on a clear day. Easy access to all the wonderful and varied locations in Dumfries and Galloway. Laghead is very dog friendly, and the large garden is fenced all around. The owners have provided everything you need for your stay, with compliments package and fresh flowers welcoming your arrival. Warm, and cosy, comfy beds and furniture, and fresh lovely bedding. Picture windows provide fabulous views across the fields, moorland to the coast. Sadly had to cut short our holiday due to illness. Would definitely want to come back again. Highly recommend. You won’t be disappointed.
