The historic town of Kirkcudbright is a lovely town on the Estuary, which still has a busy and bustling harbour and is a magnet for guests to the area. Stroll through the winding streets where you can visit the famous Broughton House, once home to E. A. Hornel. Kirkcudbright is known as the ’artists’ town’ having hosted generations of painters, craft makers and artisans – a culture still thriving today. Throughout the year visitors are attracted to the town as there are a diverse range of annual events from farmers’ markets, the country fair, the Jazz Festival, Festival of Light, the Riding of the Marches and of course the spectacular Tattoo, an event not to be missed. With some lovely little niche shops and fabulous places to eat, the town is an ideal location to base yourself while exploring this delightful area. A must for children and adults alike is a visit to the Dark Sky Planetarium, a state of the art interactive science and space themed experience for everyone, or you just may prefer the Dark Art Gin Distillery next door! Warmed by the Gulf Stream there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens (National Trust). Close to the Galloway Forest Park, the first Dark Sky Park in the UK, and central to five of the 7Stanes, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers. The area has numerous walks available, from scenic coastal walks to forest trails. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something to entertain everyone. This property is in the same ownership as UK13214, also in Kirkcudbright. Beach 4 miles. Pub and restaurant 100 yards..

What a great location in this beautiful artists town. So much going on and a gallery on every corner. Cottage is roomy and comfortable with a huge bed! A stone's throw from the harbour and and free parking everywhere. Ate in the Garrett and Skully and Scran (do book). Vintage Fayre, Tattoo, Farmers Market and Vintage Car Show were on when we were there, so plenty to keep us entertained.

This is a lovely cottage in a lovely town. When booking we did not realise there was no garden. Looking at the photographs advertising the cottage there was a back door and we wrongly assumed there would be some sort of outside space. There is nothing, access out the backdoor is for emergencies only as no right of way. I do feel this should be stated in the information. We took a dog with us and it was far from ideal without any enclosed outside space for him. The cottage has a washing machine but with no outdoor area, no washing line, not even a clothes drier, it was probablamatic when needing to dry towels etc from the dog. We stopped him going in the sea in the end which he wasn't happy about! I would suggest the owners provide a clothes dryer of some sort and feel the cottage not really suitable for taking a dog. Other than that all OK.
