Some reviews of Brae Cottage were negative and I was a bit concerned about our choice. As soon as we opened the door I knew the cottage was for us. We like places that let you feel you can relax. Brae cottage is clean, well supplied, and homely. We enjoyed everything about the house, garden and the village of Whithorn. It is quiet and friendly. There is a grocery, newsagent, and a museum. People are friendly and welcoming. All in all we had a lovely few days. Oh, and I'm 78 but going up the steps into the garden wasn't a problem. With my stick and the firm hand rail I was able to manage. There is actually only one uneven step and as long as you're aware of it all is good. If our nine year old lab could talk he'd probably complain about his arthritis and stairs but he loved the garden so much he was happy to go up and down many times a day,!

Brae Cottage is cosy, comfortable, clean and well equipped. The owners provided helpful information and clear instructions about the property. Galloway is a peaceful corner of Scotland and we had a relaxing holiday.

Windows were dirty, kitchen skylight leaking, bathroom had dirty grouting round tiles, black mould round the bottom of the shower curtain and on the slipmat and there was a large snail on the wall. Gaps in the radiators were covered in dust as was a lot of the skirting. Only one dishtowel was provided and our personal towels were old and tired. The blind for the small bedroom skylight was in a box that was padlocked so couldn’t be accessed. We enjoyed being in Whithorn and have hired a few cottages in previous years, however this is not one that we would return to.
