Kirklauchline Cottage is highly praised for its peaceful, remote setting with stunning views, making it ideal for those seeking relaxation and a break from everyday life. Guests appreciate the well-equipped, cosy interior and proximity to both Portpatrick and Stranraer. Many mention the warm welcome and thoughtful touches from the host. While most reviews are positive, a few guests noted issues with mattress comfort, kitchen cleanliness, and the garden's suitability for dogs. Overall, the cottage offers a tranquil retreat with excellent amenities and a homely atmosphere.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several specifically mentioning cleanliness on arrival. However, a few reviews highlighted areas needing improvement, such as sticky kitchen worktops, stained utensils, and the need for a deeper clean in some places.
The location is frequently described as peaceful, remote, and offering beautiful views. Guests enjoyed the tranquillity and easy access to local towns and attractions, though some noted the approach can be tricky and the property is quite isolated.
The cottage is generally considered comfortable, with positive comments about the cosy atmosphere, hot showers, and spacious bath. Some guests, however, found the double bed and mattresses too firm or uncomfortable, which slightly affected the overall comfort rating.
Guests appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, modern appliances, good Wi-Fi, and thoughtful amenities. A few mentioned maintenance issues such as sticky worktops, old baking trays, and a broken shower, but these were not widespread concerns.
Many guests mentioned thoughtful touches such as welcome baskets, Christmas hampers, and decorations, which made their stay feel special. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every booking.

A very remote but pictures setting. Wonderful green and rolling hills being mainly sheep and cattle country. All well maintained and a very beautiful part of Scotland. The Cottage is a light and airy bungalow with good bathroom and kitchen, (suggest some of the old cooking trays be thrown out), but this did not distract from the facilities available. As an old hand at self-catering I always take my own fry/sauté pans and steak skillet with me. The Hob and oven were new and easy to use as was the other Kitchen equipment, which is definitely a key point if you plan to cook in, and not just exist on eating out. The open plan Living and dining facilities are excellent with great TV and Wi-Fi receptionBedrooms OK but the mattresses are not the most comfortable. We found sharing the small double bed was a problem, so one of us had to decamp to the single bed in the other room (big problem if there are 4 of you.) Appreciate this is a cost but the old spring Mattresses could do with updating)Excellent shower and hot water and the heating is more than adequate if the weather is inclement. Overall, a very enjoyable stay and would recommend.Ps. be aware that most of the access roads are single lane with limited passing passes but traffic is so light you will be unfortunate if you meet an oncoming vehicle.

On arrival cottage looks clean and well presented, however, look a bit more and the kitchen, kitchen utensils and bathroom need a deep clean. Kitchen utensils are stained and sticky, some of the baking sheets need to be disposed and replaced. The shower is broken although usable. With a bit more attention to the cleanliness it would be a lovely place to stay

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kirklauchline cottage. The views were lovely and within a peaceful, relaxing setting. We slept like logs as no passing traffic and the cottage is quite modern inside with good wifi and even a smart TV. The kitchen has all the mod cons and there's plenty of hot water and heating if needed. Both our mobile phones worked well ( EE & Vodafone). Lots of interesting places to visit and all within a short drive. Overall a great place to holiday and would stay again.
