Once a working mill dating back to the 1700s, the property still features the original Mill Lade flowing gently through the garden, creating a peaceful soundtrack to your stay. Nestled just a few miles from the charming village of Thornhill, Townhead Mill offers far-reaching countryside views and a sense of tranquillity that sets in from the moment you arrive.
The property is accessed via a sweeping driveway and offers level access to the welcoming entrance porch.
Inside, you’ll find a spacious dining area, a welcoming, light and bright living room with patio doors that open onto a balcony, perfect for enjoying the stunning views with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine, and a well-equipped kitchen and from here a door leads to outside steps to the lower garden. The ground floor features a large master bedroom with a king-size bed, single bed, and cot, complete with an en-suite shower room, as well as a second double bedroom.
Downstairs, the lower ground floor houses a third double bedroom with a convenient Jack-and-Jill en-suite, and a fantastic games room complete with a table tennis table, exercise bike, and a selection of board games. A door from the games room leads out to the lower garden, a delightful place to unwind.
Townhead Mill is ideally situated for exploring the local area. Just a short drive away, you can discover Drumlanrig Castle, with its magnificent grounds and art collection, or enjoy a walk or cycle through the scenic forests of Ae and Mabie. The stunning Solway Coast is a short drive away as is the Galloway Forest Park, Scotland’s first Dark Sky Park. For a touch of culture, Dumfries offers Robert Burns heritage sites, galleries, and riverside strolls. Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The house itself was clean and had everything you could possibly need. The little village of Thornhill is not too far away and there are some other lovely locations a little further out. Would definitely recommend!

This was a lovely holiday and would have given straight 5s but for a couple of little issues: there is no shower mat provided and we had to buy one to ensure my husband didn’t fall. There are no instructions (that I could find) for the electrical appliances so spent some time guessing how to use. But this is a lovely home away from home. It was cosy despite bad weather. We will probably go back and may stay longer next time.
