Guests say

Guests appreciate the spacious, rural setting of New Cottage, with its comfortable living spaces and proximity to Inverness. The enclosed garden and nearby walks add to the charm, while the private loch is a highlight for fishing and outdoor activities. The cottage's location offers a true Scottish rural feel and is ideal for family holidays and exploring local attractions.

Reviews consistently describe the cottage as clean and well-maintained, with one guest noting it was welcoming and another mentioning it was clean and warm, indicating high standards of cleanliness.

The location is praised for its rural charm, proximity to Inverness, and local wildlife sightings. However, some guests noted the nearby road can be noisy and busy, which affects the tranquility and safety when accessing the road.

The majority of guests found the cottage comfortable, with spacious living and sleeping areas. One review mentioned a previously uncomfortable bed was replaced, showing attention to comfort. However, some guests found the sofas and kitchen workspace less satisfactory.

Facilities like the enclosed garden, play area, and private loch are well-received. Criticisms include the need for better kitchen storage, uncomfortable sofas, and long appliance cycles. The garden gate and fencing also require maintenance.

While guests mentioned a welcome pack and the provision of a fly rod for fishing, there are not enough references to thoughtfulness in the form of gifts or special touches to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such amenities are appreciated but not guaranteed.

Set on the Farr Estate in beautiful Strathnairn, Carn Cottage is a recently refurbished heritage property that offers a high standard of holiday accommodation. The cottage itself has a very large wrap-around garden, perfect for the children and dogs to run and roam around. There’s also a great decking area at the rear of the property with a BBQ. Entering the cottage there’s a fantastic open plan living space with a wood burner taking centre stage. A utility room is very welcome considering all the outdoor adventuring you’ll be doing. There’s a double bedroom with en-suite also on the ground floor, perfect for the less mobile. On the first floor there are three further bedrooms and three more bathrooms to complete the accommodation. One of the first floor bedrooms is a single though, so the cottage sleeps a maximum of seven people.

Even though only 20 minutes from the centre of Inverness, being at the cottage and on the Estate feels like you’re a million miles away from civilisation. Staying at Carn Cottage offers the best of both worlds, you can escape into the countryside whilst at the same time be connected to the Highland capital and its touring routes. You don’t have to stray far from Carn Cottage to have an authentic and amazing Highland holiday. Here you can bike, hike, boat and fish all from the cottage on the Estate. In fact, only a short walk from the cottage, there’s a private loch waiting to be fished (permits are included in the rental of Carn Cottage). Rowing boats are available for fishing. There are hiking routes through woodland and up onto the Farr Estate moors, and these double up in many instances as bike trails too. Also worth mentioning, is that the River Findhorn is only a short drive away up the road directly opposite the cottage, and to fish for salmon on the river pre-booking permits is necessary (contact Farr Estate for information).

If you do wish to explore further afield beyond the Farr Estate, and we encourage you to do so because there’s so much to see in the Highlands and at Carn Cottage you’re brilliantly positioned to head off in different directions and get a lot out of the area. The minor road that passes Carn Cottage leads down the strath to the A9 which will transport you quickly to Inverness and the NC500 beyond or south into the Cairngorm National Park. You can actually link up hikes and biking routes from the Farr Estate with roads, tracks and paths that lead to Loch Ness via the amazing scenery that makes up the southern side of Loch Ness. In short, there’s so much to see and do on the doorstep and further afield. One thing we can say though is that a week at Carn Cottage on the Farr Estate won’t be enough, and if you can manage longer you’ll be so grateful for the extra time to explore. It’s a fantastic place to stay. Beach 24 miles.

Only dogs allowed at the property.

Pets must be kept on a lead at all times.

Suitable for up to 2 pets

Winter family get together - a comfortable centrally heated house with a cosy woodburner and plenty of logs supplied. The house is roomy, has character and the surroundings of Farr Estate are lovely. Easy 25 min drive from Inverness. There's a large enclosed garden with swings / play equipment and an enclosed raised deck with seating and bbq.

The cottage has bags of potential, the sofas weren’t particularly comfortable and required constant shaking reshaping in order that they looked presentable. There was very little workspace in the kitchen. We didn’t like the large door in the kitchen nit having a blind or curtain that could be pulled when it became dark outside, both the dishwasher and washing machine had extremely long washing cycles which must make them expensive to run.The TV operation was a work of art.The garden was spacious and great area for the dogs, or children to run about but the back gate didn’t close safely we had to prop wood and whatever we could find to put behind it to keep it closed, the edge of the garden to one side sloped down but it had prickles of some sort probably brambles in it and fencing at that side didn’t appear to be sturdy. We did enjoy our stay as we’ve been coming to Farr for 20years plus Staying at Dalvourn. We know a great deal of the area.I think some attention should be given to the kitchen fir storage of clients own food products, there wasn’t one empty cupboard in which products could be stored easily, we do eat out occasionally but also cook superb meals ourselves. We would recommend the property but l do feel it needs attention in the areas mentioned.

We booked the cottage as our base for family supporting our daughter running the Loch Ness Marathon. Spacious rural cottage with very comfortable living and sleeping. Lots of walks and lochs nearby and just a 20 minute drive into Inverness. Very useful, well set-out info in the house book. Good sized safely enclosed garden, though the property is by the side of a narrow road with large lorries thundering past in the daytime.
