East Lodge is highly praised for its warm, comfortable atmosphere and stunning location, offering tranquility and a secure, spacious garden. Guests appreciate the well-appointed, clean cottage with a homely feel, comfortable beds, and a well-stocked kitchen. The property is ideal for dog owners and nature lovers, with wildlife sightings adding to the experience. The thoughtful touches, such as a welcome gift, are well received, though not guaranteed.
Guests consistently note the cleanliness of East Lodge, describing it as tidy and well-maintained. One minor issue was reported with dog waste in the garden from a previous occupant, but this is seen as an isolated incident.
The location is celebrated for its peace, quiet, and natural beauty, with easy access to local amenities and attractions. The rural setting is perfect for a tranquil retreat, though some may find it slightly remote.
Reviewers find the beds extremely comfortable and the cottage spacious and welcoming. A minor drawback mentioned is the temperature control in the lounge and snug, but overall, the comfort level is rated highly.
The cottage is well-equipped, with a special mention of the kitchen and its Everhot oven. Some points for improvement include the full waste bin and lack of stair gates for pets. The garden and fire pit are appreciated, though the use of the fire pit was limited by the season.
While guests are delighted with the welcome gifts of wine and biscuits, as well as the basket of logs, there is no consistent mention of such gestures across all reviews. Therefore, it is politely noted that such thoughtful touches, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

The wider flora and fauna surrounding East Lodge is spectacular. Within only a short walk from the lodge you will see red deer and numerous birds, including iconic Highland birds of prey. The flowers, shrubs, and trees beyond Scatwell’s grove and up Strathconon are varied and mature adding weight to why this glen is possibly the most beautiful in Scotland.
East Lodge itself is a Category C Listed Building (Historic Scotland) and as soon as you lay eyes on the property upon arrival you can’t help noticing historic features. Entering East Lodge through the main arched doorway, you then step into a spacious inner hallway. On the left you have the living room with stunning bay window, characterful stone hearth framing the wood burning stove and a luxurious Chesterfield sofa. Also off the inner hallway is a study and the fantastic open plan kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is well-equipped and perfect for those that like to bake and cook. Off the kitchen to the rear of East Lodge is a lobby and boot room with access to the garden as well as a cloakroom/utility. On the first floor of East Lodge there are three characterful bedrooms two kings and a twin. All three bedrooms are different and enjoy woodland and rural views. Also on the first floor is the spacious bathroom with walk-in shower.
Outside of East Lodge the owners have landscaped the large garden; the lawn has been seeded and will be looking its best later in 2022. However, the garden is still a lovely place to be as you’re surrounded by mature Scatwell trees from around the globe. You can sit up on the patio at the top of the garden by the fire pit and feel at ease in this beautiful place.
From East Lodge we urge you to get out and explore this amazing part of the world. Up the glen there are many walks to enjoy and there’s fantastic fly fishing for trout and salmon only a short walk away. Beyond Strathconon there are some of the best golf courses in the world waiting to be played on, including Royal Dornoch and Castle Stuart; and the NC500 awaits only a short drive away from East Lodge to transport you to some of the best sights in Europe, including Applecross, the Isle of Skye and the utterly incredible Assynt. Inverness and mighty Loch Ness are only a short drive away as well. Beach 25 miles.

The Large Fir tree shown in the original photos at the front of East Lodge had to be taken down recently, there are still some Logs in that area awaiting removal, please keep children and pets away from that area.

East Lodge is a cottage holiday that we would highly recommend. The presentation and location of East Lodge is very good. The garden is nice and secure, and good large size surrounded by trees. There is a firepit which we didn't get to use due to the time of year, but it would be a nice place to relax if the weather permits. The Kitchen with its Everhot oven was always warm, and made cooking a nicer than normal experience, equipped with 99% of what you might want to use.The rooms all have a homely feel about them, the beds are comfortable, and it is clean and tidy throughout. The welcome gift of wine and biscuits was well received, as was the basket of logs - thank you. Some points to note. When you get there, that is when you learn that dogs are not allowed upstairs, with no way to gate off the stairs. The information book needs a review by the owner to make sure it is actually all about East Lodge, most of it is, but there are a few things that are not related to East Lodge. The garden was used by a large dog by one of the previous occupants, 8 dog waste bags later, it was clear (that is a dog owner issue not a cottage owner issue)The general waste bin outside was already full of general waste, so whilst it didn't cause an issue during our stay, there was nowhere for us to put our black bin bag at the end of the holiday. The lounge and snug were cold with no obvious way to control the radiators - these are all minor points. Overall East Lodge is a great place to stay, would absolutely recommend it to anyone that wants a well presented and comfortable escape into the country.

We spent a fantastic week in East Lodge in October 25. It's even nicer in reality than in the photos. It's remote enough that you get the benefit of the tranquil Glen Strathconon, yet close enough to shops and restaurants if you need supplies. On a clear night, the skies were beautiful, away from light pollution and we had the added bonus of being there in rutting season, so we could hear the amazing sound of the stags roaring. A trip to the end of the glen is so worthwhile, and if you're a walker or hillwaker, you're spoiled for choice. The cottage is well equipped and has a wonderful garden. I would love to return to East Lodge for another holiday.
