Guests say

Amber's Cottage offers stunning views and a peaceful, dog-friendly setting ideal for exploring Skye. Guests consistently praise the location, scenery, and the cosy, well-equipped kitchen. The cottage is appreciated for its enclosed garden and warm atmosphere. Some reviews mention maintenance issues such as mould, worn furnishings, and occasional cleanliness concerns, but many guests found the property clean and comfortable. The owner is noted as friendly and responsive. While not luxurious, the cottage provides a charming base for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful area.

Many guests found the cottage clean and tidy on arrival, but several reviews mention issues such as mould, dust, and occasional lapses in cleaning standards. Some guests reported specific problems like stained mattresses, musty towels, and mouse droppings, while others described the property as spotless. The mixed feedback results in an above-average but not excellent score.

The location is widely praised for its breathtaking views, tranquillity, and proximity to local walks and attractions. Guests loved the peaceful setting and easy access to the beach and mountains, making it a highlight of their stay.

Most guests found the cottage cosy, warm, and comfortable, with particular appreciation for the beds and lounge. However, some mentioned issues with soft seating, thin duvets, and limited space or storage in the twin room. Overall, comfort is rated positively with a few minor drawbacks.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and dog owners appreciated the secure garden. However, several guests noted maintenance issues such as mould, worn furnishings, broken appliances, and a lack of some amenities (e.g., freezer, reliable TV signal, WiFi). The facilities are functional but would benefit from some upgrades and repairs.

Guests appreciated friendly communication from the owner and the dog-friendly approach. Some mentioned courtesy calls and helpful information, but there is no mention of gifts or welcome packs. Thoughtfulness is reflected in the owner's responsiveness and pet-friendly policies, but extras are not guaranteed.

Just a short walk from the cottage takes you down to the shoreline and the sandy beach, from where will see some remarkable footprints left by dinosaurs that walked across the sand here some 165 million years ago!

Staffin Beach is one of the most popular beaches on the Isle of Skye due to its incredible and unique black sand as well as the famous dinosaur footprints revealed at low tide; it is also easy to reach from the cottage, lying just a short drive or wonderful walk away, which just adds to its appeal! The Isle of Skye has so much to offer visitors and the capital town of Portree provides a great selection of lively pubs, shops and restaurants. The world famous Dunvegan Castle is also well worth a visit, as is Skye's only Distillery at Talisker. Heating good. Externally the house is very shabby and the door thresholds very dirty. Fortunately the inside is clean. The pillows and duvets seem brand new but are extremely thin. A 7.5 tog duvet is totally inadequate. Fortunately I travel with my own pillow. Could really do with black-out blinds in the bedrooms. The kitchen is okay but we didn't cook and ate cereal for breakfast - proper cereal bowls would have been good. Having been in the business myself and stayed in many self-catering places I know there's room for improvement. Expensive for what it was.

Poorly cleaned. The house is far from the beach and is difficult to access. There is junk everywhere in the owners’ closets. The towels were musty, and the property is located between two collapsed buildings. The garden is poorly maintained, and there is exposed electrical wiring throughout. Absolutely not a cosy house.

Amber cottage is superbly situated to have panoramic views of the Qu'rang and Table top mountains. We were very warm and cosy with lashings of hot water and the dogs loved the secure garden. The local beach gave us a place to walk them and we toured around he north part of Skye soaking up the atmosphere of this beautiful island. An excellent place to stay to be able to explore and to rest and relax.
