Greenhill offers stunning views and a prime location for exploring Skye, with a cosy open fire and comfortable furnishings. While guests appreciate the secure garden for dogs and the proximity to Portree, there are recurring mentions of maintenance issues and cleanliness that need addressing.
Several reviews mention a lack of cleanliness, with reports of dust, dirt, and mould. Despite prompt attention to some issues, the recurring nature of these comments suggests room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its fabulous views, proximity to Portree, and central position for exploring the Isle of Skye, making it an ideal base for holidaymakers.
Guests find the property comfortable, with cosy sofas and beds, though there are comments about insufficient seating for all guests and worn mattresses in the twin room.
The property is well-equipped, but several reviews highlight issues with maintenance, such as the bathroom, microwave, and guttering, indicating a need for updates and repairs.
There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

Greenhill is a very special holiday home tucked away in a tiny settlement called Torvaig, near Portree. Greenhill is a detached bungalow and has been completely renovated to a very good standard of accommodation. There are three bedrooms, a family bathroom, a living/dining room with open fire, and a kitchen. It’s a perfect house for families because it has an amazing enclosed garden.
The location is truly spectacular, at the road end with one of the best views on the island, and that’s saying something. At the front of the property, the garden spills away to reveal the Sound of Raasay and the channel that leads to Portree harbour, as well as the striking hill Ben Tianavaig across the water. It’s a sublime situation and you will be blown away every time you gaze out to look.
Even though you’re so close to Portree, this location is amazingly quiet: partly because the road to Portree is a few miles round, and not direct, which means you’re still close for the shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, but have the advantage of peace and quiet, your own little tranquil slice of heaven. This quiet helps attract Skye’s wildlife, and just below the property and to the left where the land spills away to the coast, there are cliffs where sea eagles and golden eagles nest. Also there are regular sightings of dolphins at the mouth of Portree Bay, which you can see from Greenhill.
Just under 3 miles to Portree by car, you’re a shorter walk away. There’s a fabulous trail that loops right by the house and is a popular walk for locals and visitors to Portree alike. Staying at Greenhill you can use the Scorrybreac Trail to get in and out of the town. To the centre of Portree it is only a 1-mile walk. Beach 7 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 2½ miles.
Suitable for up to 2 pets

What a fabulous location within a secure garden for the dogs. Super cosy open fire and the views from every window amazing but especially from the living room. The photos on the site are old and the room was so much more comfortable than it looked on the photos. We would definitely book again on our next holiday to Skye

Greenhill has fabulous views. The road and track to Greenhill is pitted with holes which made getting to it uncomfortable. The exterior of Greenhill needs some TLC and maintenance. The bathroom at Greenhill was poor with patches of mould on the ceiling. We had a comfortable stay at Greenhill but we wouldn't recommend it.

The cottage is close or within a 25min drive the walks I wanted to do and the old man of storr is just a short drive down the road. The beds are comfortable and the sofas are a blessing after a long walk. The cooker took a bit of messing to get working and I think it’s time to replace the microwave but other than that great. If I were to return to Isle of Skye I’d book this cottage againGreat time, great hol great cottage
