Guests say

Larachan cottage boasts a stunning location with breathtaking views and direct beach access, ideal for a peaceful retreat. Guests appreciate the warm, cosy atmosphere and well-equipped kitchen. While the property is cherished for its charm, it would benefit from some refurbishment and enhanced cleaning to match its picturesque setting.

Several reviews mention a lack of cleanliness, including dirty carpets, mould, and unclean kitchen appliances. The need for immediate cleaning upon arrival was a common concern, impacting the overall experience.

The location is consistently praised for its beauty, tranquillity, and proximity to the sea, with many guests highlighting the exceptional views and peaceful environment as a highlight of their stay.

The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable, with a warm atmosphere and spacious rooms. However, some guests noted that certain beds and furniture could be improved for better comfort.

The property is well-equipped with a large kitchen and utility room, but several reviews cite issues with maintenance, such as peeling wallpaper, broken chairs, and the need for a deep clean in certain areas.

There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owner. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Larachan is a spacious, detached holiday bungalow perched on the edge of the sea, in the quiet hamlet of Scarfskerry. It provides bright and generous accommodation, and the lounge has large picture windows that boast amazing uninterrupted sea views across the Pentland Firth to Orkney. There is a bright, modern kitchen/dining area and three attractively presented bedrooms. The garden grounds lead directly down to the sea with a private rocky beach. This area has some of the finest beaches to be found in the UK. At nearby Dunnet Bay, paths lead through the white sandy dunes to the sweeping beach below. Surfing, body-boarding, sand-buggying, swimming, horse riding and wildlife watching are all local pastimes, yet this superb beach is never crowded. It is also close to the Highland Tourist Trail that runs from Wick Harbour in the east, through to Ullapool in the west. This trail follows a route across the far north and west of Scotland, taking in some of the most dramatic scenery, with mountain ranges, stunning beaches and an ever-changing coastline along the way.

The Castle of Mey, beautifully restored by the late Queen Mother, is clearly visible from the cottage and just a stones throw away. This fairytale castle has a fascinating history and the gardens, grounds and views are wonderful. The whole area is renowned for its bird and sea life, puffins, Great Skua, otters, seals, dolphins and whales are all seen around these coastal waters. Take a boat trip from John O’ Groats to encounter the sealife and to explore this fascinating coastline. Day trips are also available to the Orkney Isles, where visitors can explore Neolithic villages, standing stones, Scapa Flow and the amazing Italian chapel, built by prisoners during the Second World War.

Fantastic location but the house itself was very old and tired and wallpaper coming of the walls.shower room was black mould on the roof and the carpets left a lot to be desired.we were overall very disappointed.

Beautiful, quiet location, overlooking the sea and Orkney. Wide-open and dark skies make for great viewing of celestial events. The cottage is warm, comfortable & spacious; we particularly liked the large, well-equipped kitchen/diner and utility room, slipper bath and the large viewing window in the sitting room. Lovely little cottage.
