HOllinhaven is known as the upside down house. I wonder if it’s been two houses???The downstairs has 2 bedrooms, a shower-room f utility on one half /the other has one bedroom and a shower-room. You cannot get from one to the other without having to go up stairs, through two living areas and down the other stair….not good if you have children so far away from the others. The stairs down to the far side bedroom I found very steep with the step rise deeper than normal - I struggled with this and the dog found it very difficult slipping and sliding on the wooden steps - a carpet would help stop the slipping about and also deaden the noise. Family in the whole house could tell when we were on the move by the noise on the stairs and the upstairs floor with a rug on the wood , not carpet. The two sitting area upstairs - 1 we used all the time because it was so bright with a big window, the other although larger, was much darker and was not used by us.Upstairs the kitchen was nice with a table and 6 chairs, all well appointed. To access the house open stairs led up to the front door, again quite steep. We always had to go in , then down to open the back door for the dog and again to let him out - a lot of dogs don’t like open stairs where you see right through. The garden was very nice and once the gate was closed was quite safe for our dog.We slept in the one bedroom at the far side, there was a side door there which was very handy for letting the dog out at night. It was lovely seeing a red squirrel running about the garden on several occasions.

Positives: This is our second stay at Holly haven and we think the house is ideally suited for a holiday in Blackwaterfoot, being near the beach, in a quiet location and with very spacious and comfortable rooms and amenities. It has a large and sheltered garden, is not overlooked and has amazing views of the sea. Negatives: The internal arrangements of accessing the second floor kitchen and the two living rooms by stairs from the ground floor bedrooms means the house is not ideal for elderly or disabled guests, however. Also, the storage heater in the downstairs bathroom was not working at all during our stay, despite being reported, which made freezing conditions in the bathroom in the morning and evening in particularly cold weather. We understand there are plans to update this bathroom but for two elderly people this was very unsatisfactory. As there is no management team any more on the island it is difficult to get these local problems, which affect the enjoyment of a relatively expensive stay, sorted.Summary: Great house, lovely position but management needs to ensure that basics like heating during cold weather are in order.
