The Coach House in the Scottish Borders is a cosy and comfortable cottage, appreciated for its cleanliness, warm atmosphere, and friendly owners. Guests have enjoyed the convenient village location with local amenities and the property's suitability as a base for exploring the surrounding areas. While some guests mentioned minor issues with facilities and pet restrictions, the overall experience has been positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found the cottage to be extremely clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water for showers. A few mentioned that certain areas could use more attention, but these were isolated comments within the overall positive feedback on cleanliness.
The location is praised for its convenience to local shops and as a base for exploring the area. The village offers great amenities and stunning views. Roadside parking and some traffic noise were noted concerns, but did not significantly detract from the location's appeal.
Guests describe the cottage as cosy and comfortable, with a warm welcome and a pleasant courtyard. Some guests found the seating and bed to be less comfortable, and the sloping ceiling in the bedroom was a minor inconvenience for a few.
The cottage is well-equipped for most needs, though some guests felt that the kitchen was dark and the bathroom small. There were also comments about the lack of a washing machine and the condition of some items. Overall, facilities met basic requirements but could benefit from updates and additions.
While some guests mentioned receiving a welcome pack and even wine for a special occasion, there were inconsistencies with the provision of these extras. As such, while the owners have shown thoughtfulness, it cannot be guaranteed for every stay.
A semi-detached, stone-built cottage, converted from a stable block, on the main street of the village of Chirnside, Berwickshire, close to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Set in the grounds of the owner's home, this welcoming Scottish cottage in the Borders offers a charming interior, ideal for a romantic break or for exploring the beaches, cliffs, coastline and history of this peaceful location. After parking up on the roadside, head into the cottage where you can unwind on the plush sofa in the living room while your partner pampers you with a delicious meal prepared in the well-equipped kitchen/diner. Savour the meal together at the intimate dining table where you can pop open a bottle of fizz to toast your romantic getaway or step outside to the private patio where you can indulge in an alfresco affair with the help of the barbecue. When the sky darkens over Chirnside head back inside to enjoy a soothing soak in the bathroom before sloping off for a restful sleep in the sumptuous king-size bed. Enjoy a romantic retreat at The Coach House. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1171641, together sleeping up to 9 guests.
Chirnside takes its name from the ancient Cairn that stood on a hill to the east of the village. It is perched on the ridge between the historic, walled town of Berwick-on-Tweed and Duns, overlooking the Tweed Valley and the distant Cheviots. The village itself is incredibly picturesque and prides itself on its many beautiful gardens. 8 miles away, you'll find the glorious, sandy beaches of Coldingham and Eyemouth, with its working harbour. Nearby attractions also include Maderston, Mellerstain, Paxton House and Ayton Castle. The grounds of the Hirsel ad Duns Castle Estate are also open to the public, as is St Abbs Head; a nature reserve run by the National Trust. The River Tweed provides fantastic opportunities for fishermen, walkers and bird-watchers and there is much evidence of the region's historic and turbulent past to be found in the spectacular countryside.

Maybe a battery operated stick on cabinet light would be a good idea by the cooker etc. the microwave is worn and shows sign of damage resulting in condensation forming in the door, the cleaner must be aware of this. The mattress, although comfortable didnât fit the bed base and the bed base around the bed near the pillows, that you can see was filthy and dusty. The air vent in the bathroom hadnât been cleaned, I hoovered that myself. The towel rail was dusty, the towels were old and hard, and laid over the dusty rail. The kitchen cupboard door where the bin is has dropped, again obvious to the cleaner so should have been fixed. Lack of glasses - only 2 hi-ball glasses which means if you change your drink you have to keep washing up. No bleach or washing up liquid, old wash cloths and scourer (which I didnât use) as they didnât look hygienic, so I brought my own. The front door condenses on the inside resulting in all the coats getting wet that were hanging there. No dog pack left, which the owner apologised for and said that the cleaner had forgotten to leave it, however, I would have expected her to drop one in the next day. All in all, this cottage needs a bit of attention as looking a bit tired.

The kitchen is well-equipped and the shower is excellent. Good location for northern Northumberland up to Edinburgh and across the Borders up the Tweed and Teviot valleys.

We found the kitchen/ dinning area very dark ( almost unusable after sunset) with insufficient lighting as a result,we had to go out a buy some portable lighting to help compensate. We found the coach house overall was a little smaller than we expected. We also found the traffic noise that started about 0500hrs Dailey fairly annoying. Finally, we thought the seating in the lounge very tired and not too comfortable. However. We did enjoy our holiday especially Spittal beach.
