Near Bank Cottage is highly praised for its stunning location, cleanliness, and comfort. Guests enjoy the peaceful setting, abundant wildlife, and proximity to nature trails and coastal walks. The garden is a beloved feature, offering a sun trap and birdwatching opportunities. Some minor issues with towels and Wi-Fi are noted, but the helpfulness of the caretaker and the overall charm of the cottage leave guests eager to return.
The cottage receives consistent commendations for its cleanliness, with numerous guests describing it as spotless and well-maintained. The caretaker is frequently mentioned for doing a great job, contributing to the high standard of cleanliness experienced by visitors.
The location is repeatedly celebrated for its beauty and tranquillity, with easy access to nature reserves, coastal walks, and wildlife sightings. Its proximity to villages and attractions adds to its appeal, making it an ideal base for exploring the Scottish Borders.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with a cosy atmosphere, comfortable beds, and a well-equipped kitchen. The garden adds to the comfort by providing a relaxing outdoor space. However, some guests mention that the cottage might feel cramped for larger groups, slightly affecting the score.
The cottage is well-regarded for its facilities, including a well-stocked kitchen and comfortable lounge area. However, there are some remarks about the lack of towels (despite being rectified by the caretaker), the need for a bath mat and hairdryer, and issues with Wi-Fi and TV reception, which slightly lower the score.
While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no specific mention of gifts or special thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness category accurately, and the score is set to null.

The A1 is just 4 miles away, giving excellent access to the Scottish Borders and the Northumberland Coast. Boat trips and fishing are also available locally. EPC Rating: Band G
St. Abbs is a pretty fishing village located just over the border into Scotland on a beautiful stretch of Berwickshire coastline. The village has a delightful harbour and fishermen's cottages scattered on the hillside and the St. Abbs Head Nature Reserve nearby is home to a rich variety of wildlife and is a popular destination for bird watchers. The area also has some beautiful walks, with the Cheviots, Scottish Borders and the stunning coastline all offering opportunities for walking. A safe, sandy beach is located under a mile away in Coldingham. The shops, museum and castle of the historic fortified Border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed are within reach, as well as Holy Island, the seaside villages of Craster, Eyemouth and Seahouses and the picturesque Farne Islands which are all an easy drive away. The lively capital city of Edinburgh is less than 50 miles away, and well worth a visit.

In terms of the location you really couldn't fault it. The cottage is ideally situated right on one of the check points of the walk along the St Abbs coastal path walk. This offered an excellent jumping off point not just for the walk but also for getting out and about to explore St Abbs, Eyemouth and Coldingham. We were incredibly lucky to see not just a number of seals in St Abbs and Coldingham, but to also see the incredible raw power of nature with the crashing waves on the shoreline, as the wind whipped up, creating spectacular and beautiful shots of the sea. A plus point was also the fact that the cottage was situated at the end of the terrace which meant that we didn't feel 'hemmed in' by neighbours, and we had the excellent experience of seeing the sheep as they were going into the field with the farmer and her dog Jake. The only small quibble would be that it did get a bit cold, (we were there in Mid November) and the heating didn't quite warm the place enough. There was an additional log fire which we could have used, but we were reluctant to create any unnecessary mess, which log fires invariably make. But as I said that was a very small quibble and I need to mention that Alistair (the caretaker) was outstanding with his helpfulness and communication. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

We had stayed in the area twice before at another property, but the owner recommended this cottage to us. Finally made the holiday 2 years later. Great location perfect for walks to St Abbs village and around the nature reserve. Very quiet and peaceful, even with walkers and the odd car passing by. We loved hearing the owls at night. Very clean and homely inside - perfect amount of space for the two of us for the week. Well stocked kitchen (with a pantry) and a very comfortable lounge area. We were grateful for powerful and hot shower! We couldnât get on with the double bed mattress, but found the twin room to be more comfortable for us. Both bedrooms are a good size with plenty of storage space. The garden was lovely - we didnât use it much during our stay, however it was perfect for night sky photography where I caught the Milky Way on camera. Cannot recommend this cottage enough, so much so my parents have booked to come next summer. We will definitely return, thank you so much Al!
