Guests say

Avenel Cottage offers a peaceful countryside retreat with beautiful views, excellent opportunities for dog walking, and a cosy atmosphere enhanced by a log fire. Guests appreciate the tranquil location, friendly host, and characterful charm. While many found the cottage clean and welcoming, some noted that the kitchen and bathroom are dated and in need of refurbishment. The property is well-situated for exploring Kelso and local attractions, making it ideal for those seeking relaxation and nature. Overall, the cottage provides a charming escape, though some maintenance improvements would enhance the experience.

Several guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, but others reported issues such as an unclean oven, microwave, and stained bath. Cleanliness appears inconsistent, with some areas needing more attention.

The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, beautiful views, proximity to Kelso, and excellent dog-walking opportunities. Guests value the peaceful countryside setting and easy access to local attractions.

Many guests found the cottage cosy, especially with the log fire, and appreciated the homely feel. However, some reported uncomfortable beds, lack of blinds, and issues with bathroom comfort, indicating room for improvement.

The cottage is generally well-equipped, with features like a log fire, bird hide, and enclosed garden. However, several reviews mention dated kitchen and bathroom facilities, broken appliances, and maintenance issues, suggesting facilities are adequate but need updating.

The host is described as friendly, informative, and responsive, with thoughtful touches such as pre-heating the cottage and providing firewood. While some guests mention these gestures, it should be noted that such extras are not guaranteed for all stays.

It was a lovely location but sadly let down by the condition of the cottage, it needs LOTS of attention, unfortunately we had lots of problems and owner was not available due to being overseas and no other contact number available.

We had a wonderful stay at Avenel Cottage. The views are perfect. Plenty of walks and the roads are well maintained. Lots to do nearby.
