Guests say

Lothlorien Cottage is a welcoming retreat with thoughtful touches, such as complimentary bread, milk, and butter. Guests have found the property to be clean and the kitchen well-equipped. The cottage offers a comfortable double bed and spacious bathroom, though some guests noted minor issues with hot water and sofa comfort. The location is within a 30-minute drive to Swansea, but some guests mentioned light pollution and road noise. The garden's upkeep received mixed reviews, and while some guests would recommend the property, others had less favourable experiences.

The cottage received praise for its spotless condition upon arrival, indicating a high level of cleanliness. However, one review mentioned an overgrown garden, which suggests some outdoor maintenance issues.

The location is appreciated for its proximity to Swansea, but some guests have raised concerns about light pollution from a street light and minor road noise. The exact preferences for location can be subjective, so the score reflects a balance between the convenience and the mentioned disturbances.

Comfort levels seem to vary, with positive remarks about the comfy sofas and a comfortable double bed. However, there are negative comments about old and uncomfortable sofas and issues with hot water in the shower, which affects the overall comfort experience.

There is not enough information to accurately score the facilities and maintenance as a whole. While the kitchen is described as well-equipped, there are concerns about hot water and clutter, and the garden's maintenance is questioned. Without more specific reviews on other facilities, a score cannot be provided.

The inclusion of welcoming touches such as bread, milk, and butter suggests a high level of thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, may not be guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A delightful, spacious terraced cottage, in the heart of the old mining village of Cwmgors, 6 miles from Ammanford, at the base of the picturesque Black Mountain. Lovingly restored with great attention to detail, with warm, welcoming accommodation, this charming cottage offers a cosy sitting room, a well-equipped, sunny kitchen with dining area, and three attractive, comfortable bedrooms. The pretty garden has a patio area as well as a meadow garden, which has an abundance of wild flowers, attracting many birds and butterflies. There are views of Black Mountain from the garden, making it a lovely spot for outdoor dining. This wonderful cottage lies at the crossroads of four areas of natural beauty; to the east you can be at the peak of the Black Mountain in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) within half an hour and to the west lies Swansea Bay, the Mumbles and the stunning Gower coastline.

The epic and romantic castles of Carmarthenshire lie just 20 minutes away to the north, whilst the hauntingly beautiful Vale of Neath, and its waterfalls, lie very close by to the south. A convenient, relaxing base, and a wonderful cottage for a memorable family holiday.

Nestling at the base of the imposing Black Mountain, the old mining village of Cwmgors provides visitors with a shop, pub and an award-winning fish and chip shop. Great walking routes are nearby, not only through the Black Mountain scenery but also in the Amman Valley. With its vast moorlands, prehistoric burial sites and medieval castles this wonderful landscape acts as the gateway to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons). Just six miles away and boasting a variety of shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants is the bustling market town of Ammanford whilst the larger town of Neath is also close by. The horseracing track at Tairgwaith holds regular race meetings from March to September and has one of only two purpose built, all-weather trotting tracks. To the south are the fantastic beaches of the Welsh coastline, making this a holiday destination for everyone.

The furniture and beds were all comfortable and the cottage itself was very cosy and welcoming. All the facilities were good and well maintained and we used them as necessary. My only "moan" would be the garden needs a bit of attention and the light fitting in the kitchen over the table is broken & will not hold a bulb. I will definitely book this cottage again.

We were very reasonable and left after one night and said we would pay for the night we stayed. Unacceptable, taking this further.

The sofas were old & uncomfortable & the garden was overgrown with weeds & brambles. There was no wardrobe space for our clothes The garden was not secure at all for our dog. The only saving grace was the double bed downstairs was comfortable . The kitchen was cluttered with chairs & we were walking sideways to get around. Definitely wouldn’t recommend & won’t be returning.
