Further east, Carmarthen (10 miles), known as the oldest town in Wales, is en route to horticultural hot spots, the National Botanic Garden of Wales (17.5 miles) and Aberglasney Gardens (22 miles). Head south for lengthy strolls on golden sands – at Pendine, the 7-mile beach is associated with 1920s land speed record attempts. Saundersfoot (14.5 miles) and Tenby (17 miles) boast beautiful beaches and an array of shops, inns and eateries, while closer to home, Laugharne (5 miles) is best-known as the home of poet Dylan Thomas and for its magnificent medieval fortress.
