In response to previous reviews:- The hot tub isnt under cover (you're wet anyway) but more importantly there were covers on the filters and we used it with the kids without incident. The decking was clean however could do with non slip matting for icy mornings. The games room is not heated and partially flooded in heavy rain (but that added to the kids enjoyment) and there was no evidence of bird poo anywhere. Bring your own set of darts if you're a player. The cottage was toasty warm so we only used the log burner on our first night (fire lighters and logs provided but no kindling or lighter/matches so used our own. I'm sure the owners would have dropped some round of we'd asked). The washing machine and tumble drier work. Sleeping arrangements worked for us although we used one of our mattresses from our campervan on the single futon because our grandson complained that it was uncomfortable. There was only one key however as we were doing everything together it wasn't an issue for us. We visited Llanerchaeron (in a deluge - even the pigs were indoors), did a treasure trail, saw dolphins and ate chips outdoors in New Quay (in wintry sunshine), and went on the Vale of Rheidiol railway from Aberystwyth in strong winds and freezing temps. We had access to the tree house and the grounds around the ponds and would've used more if the weather had been better.... The intermittent WiFi meant the kids had to play with us and each other instead. There's a piano! Shannon's review January 2025 is spot on. Knowing that it wasn't perfect meant we were at ease with the kids. We did an online shop for delivery on the first night and included cleaning/laundry products, toilet rolls, kitchen towel etc so had everything we needed. Bring wellies, waterproofs, colouring books, board games (we brought an escape room game and Outsmarted), and a sense of humour, for the weather, the mud and the shower in the wet room. Would we return? Everyone agreed, absolutely!

The day we returned home (4th Jan), I lodged a complaint with Sykes about my son receiving an injury in the hot tub. Whilst in the hot tub (and with a supervising adult in the hot tub and one standing on the decking), my son sustained a really bad injury when he was sucked into the filter system, mistaking the area for a seat. He was screaming as it hurt him so much and was left very distressed. There was no cover on the filter, no sign to warn against it, and no instruction in the cottage handbook. We have stayed at many cottages with hot tubs, and never has this happened before. To add to this, as the supervising adult on the decking tried to pull him out of the filter, they stepped in dog dirt. We do not have a dog, so this had been left from a previous stay. The adult who stood in it was in brand new trainers (received for Xmas). We were most upset by the incident and the lack of health and safety. We had a very distressed little 6âyearâold, who now never wants to get into another hot tub again. Stay away from this cottage.
