About this property

Criccieth 1.7 miles. Located in the quaint setting of Llanystumdwy near Criccieth, Gwynedd, lies the charming, two-bedroom holiday cottage of 6 Maen Y Wern. With a stone-built façade, thoughtfully-preserved interiors featuring exposed stone walls and timber beams, an enclosed lawned garden, and off-road parking for one car, this wonderful home welcomes a family of four or a group of friends sharing for a relaxing, self-catered stay just a short drive west from the brilliant Eryri National Park. Step into your new home-from-home and be welcomed by a fully-equipped kitchen, where you and your loved ones can work together to rustle up a delicious home-cooked dinner to be savoured at the table in the living/dining room. When your bellies are full, head over to the sitting area, kept warm by a well-placed woodburning stove, where you can kick back and unwind on the sofas as you enjoy a film or two on the TV. When sleep finally calls, refresh with a shower before you head upstairs to catch your rest in either an inviting double or twin bedroom. If you can tear yourself from your delightful new dwelling, head out to explore what your local area has to offer. Within a brief car drive, you can find the castle of Tomen Fawr, as well as the Bron Eifion Fishing Lakes. Equally close by, the town of Criccieth is brimming with interesting things to do and see, whether that's a peaceful amble along the stretch of Criccieth Beach, roaming the historic site of Criccieth Castle, settling down to tuck into a seafood lunch at Dylan's Criccieth, or grabbing an ice cream from the famous Cadwaladers to enjoy as you meander through town. Further afield, a short car journey east will bring you to notable locations such as Porthmadog, home to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway, the tourist village of Portmeirion, the ancient seaside resort of Harlech with its eponymous castle, as well as the bustling community of Barmouth, which lies on the idyllic estuary of Afon Mawddach and Cardigan Bay. Enjoy all of this and more when you book a stay at 6 Maen Y Wern.

Often described as the 'Pearl of Wales on the shores of Snowdonia’, this delightful seaside town is situated just 5 miles from Porthmadog. The town’s 13th-century castle perches majestically on a rocky outcrop, dominating the skyline and offering superb views of Tremadog Bay and the Snowdonia mountains. Watersports enthusiasts will be delighted by the two beaches, whilst walkers and bikers are spoilt for choice by the proximity of the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Stroll along the beaches, watch porpoises playing in the surf, or relax in the various pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, sampling the famous Cadwalader’s ice cream. Further afield, attractions such as Portmeirion’s wonderful Italianate gardens, the Ffestiniog railway in Porthmadog, Harlech Castle, Caernarfon Castle and the beautiful beaches and renowned golf courses of the Llyn Peninsula are all within an easy drive.

I agreed to this and £45 discount was agreed for the inconvenience of not having a cooker. I went on holiday and had beautiful weather in Wales. Sadly the cottage did not live up to expectations. The electric hob cut out constantly so we were unable to cook proper meals. The shower filled with water as we showered and felt really damp. I messaged the owner but didn't receive an answer until the next evenin. By then we had left and gone home a day early. I have been ringing Sykes since to try and let them know the issues. Still waiting for the agreed 45 refund nearly 2 weeks later. Poor show!
