About this property

Gowan Brae is a delightful retreat nestled in the charming town of Criccieth, Gwynedd, offering breathtaking sea and mountain views near Eryri National Park. With private parking for up to five cars, this pet-friendly haven offers child-friendly facilities, a Smart TV, wine chiller and proximity to the beach, making it perfect for families or groups of friends seeking a memorable escape. After parking your car, you’re immediately drawn up a set of steps to the front patio—an elevated vantage point that offers breath taking panoramic views of the sea, the Snowdonia Mountains, and both Criccieth and Harlech Castles. This is more than just an entrance; it’s a moment to pause, breathe in the fresh coastal air, and take in the scenery that makes this property truly special.

With outdoor furniture perfectly positioned, it’s an ideal spot for morning coffee, sunset drinks, or simply soaking up the surroundings at any time of day. The property’s contemporary white exterior and large windows hint at the light-filled spaces within. Step inside to the kitchen/diner, where a wooden dining table seats ten guests, perfect for gathering over a hearty meal. Fire up the gas range cooker and let the aromas of your favourite dishes fill the space. Once the meal is served, gather around the table to share stories and laughter long into the evening. Afterward, pop the dishes in the dishwasher and pour a chilled bottle from the wine chiller as you admire the sea and castle views through the expansive windows.

A utility room with washer/dryer ensures convenience throughout your stay, while a cloakroom with WC and basin is thoughtfully positioned nearby. The sitting room invites you to unwind in comfort. Bi-folding doors open onto the patio, framing spectacular sea views, while warm tones and elegant décor create a tranquil atmosphere. Settle into the plush seating, switch on the large wall-mounted Smart TV, and enjoy your favourite shows as the sun dips below the horizon. As the evening draws in, retreat to one of three beautifully appointed king-size bedrooms on the ground floor. Each features wooden panelled feature walls and its own en-suite with walk-in shower, basin, heated towel rail, and WC.

One of these rooms also boasts a private balcony with stunning views, offering a peaceful spot to begin or end your day. Ascend the stairs to discover two twin bedrooms, thoughtfully designed for comfort and privacy. One enjoys views of the castle and sea, while the other looks out to the majestic Snowdonia Mountains. A plush family bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin, heated towel rail, and WC completes the upper level—perfect for a relaxing soak before bed. Whether you're enjoying a picnic, reading in the sun, or watching the stars emerge, the wonderful patio space is designed for relaxation and connection.

If you can manage to leave the comfort of Gowan Brae, venture out and explore the charming town of Criccieth. Just a short drive away, you will find the enchanting village of Portmeirion, famed for being the filming location of the 1960s television show 'The Prisoner' and with its beautifully designed Italian-style architecture, it's a must-see. For a unique travel experience, embark on a journey through the stunning Welsh countryside aboard the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways. This heritage railway takes passengers from the harbour in Porthmadog to the slate-quarrying town of Blaenau Ffestiniog, crossing rivers, mountains, and forests on a historic and scenic ride.

Round off your day with a visit to the imposing Castell Cricieth. Perched atop a rocky peninsula offering commanding views of Tremadog Bay and the town, this 13th-century castle is steeped in history and charm that will enthral history buffs and casual visitors alike. No matter your idea of a perfect holiday, Gowan Brae offers an excellent base to make beautiful memories in the heart of Gwynedd.

Often described as the 'Pearl of Wales on the shores of Snowdonia’, now known as Eryri, this delightful seaside town is situated just 5 miles from Porthmadog. The town’s 13th-century castle perches majestically on a rocky outcrop, dominating the skyline and offering superb views of Tremadog Bay and the Eryri mountains. Watersports enthusiasts will be delighted by the two beaches, whilst walkers and bikers are spoilt for choice by the proximity of the beautiful Eryri National Park. Stroll along the beaches, watch porpoises playing in the surf, or relax in the various pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, sampling the famous Cadwalader’s ice cream. Further afield, attractions such as Portmeirion’s wonderful Italianate gardens, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway in Porthmadog, Harlech Castle, Caernarfon Castle and the beautiful beaches and renowned golf courses of the Llyn Peninsula are all within an easy drive.
